Now the ocean is a little bit closer after the hurricane, but it still looks beautiful.

THE GOOD: The hotel was clean, beautiful, the location was awesome and the rooms were great but please read the BAD. THE BAD: I normally do not complain but I feel that it is very much needed here. When it was brought to the staff's attention that 5 out of 6 of our group were sick, nothing was done about it. They could have let us know at the time that we could have cancelled the all-inclusive as at least one to two members of our group were sick from the third day onwards until the end of our vacation. We had service from a gentlemen who ensured us that he would let his supervisor know (he did). He even went to the extent of speaking to the other groups that had ill people in their groups (7 out of 11, another group 25 out of 41, 6 out of 9) and obtained their room numbers to pass the info along. Nothing seemed to get to the management level. Being a high end resort or rated as one, I was surprised that the management was unwilling to reimburse nor acknowledge that their hotel had a HUGE issue. Ryan said that if we had called right then that they would have sent a doctor and paid for that. We were never told that we could cancel our All-Inclusive package at any point (as we purchased them at check in). At $87 U.S. per day, our group had definitely lost a weeks worth with everyone being sick (vomiting and diarrhea). There were other parties that we had connected with and anywhere from 50-90% of their group were also hit by this bug/bacteria. It was no coincidence that this many people were ill from the hotel. Another incident was I was in the bathtub one evening and I was in the tub while the water was running, it then started to spit out a large amount of brown sludgy stuff. It was quite disgusting and I reported it to the cleaning lady the very next day and she ensured us that she would make a report but nothing was done at the managers level. The manager at the time of the complaint (Ryan) didn't apologize but said that another suite had reported the same issue and they offered them to move to another suite. My incident happened at 2 in the morning and I didn't report it to until the next day and nothing was done. She said then, there was nothing more they could do about it. The other huge issue was even though we purchased the All-Inclusive package, we would have to sign for every single bill, every hour. Sometimes, service was very slow (i.e. it took one hour to get a pizza and drink, pool side). Then if you ordered from another server, it was wrong to do so. I have never been in trouble before ordering from another server at any other all inclusive resort! Our one server literally got perturbed with me to say that I am not to order from any other server that himself. Some times I had to go searching for him and one time had to wait 20 min before ordering a drink. It was ridiculous! Two members of our group were chased down to the elevators to sign off a bill and we got a call in our room from the supervisor of the pool side saying that she is sending down our servers to our room to get a signature because we forgot to sign off on two waters! THIS IS AN ALL-INCLUSIVE PACKAGE!!! Also mentioning All-Inclusive packages, the buffet for breakfast was VERY minimal compared to all of the other resorts I have been to. We didn't bother going to the buffets afterwards as they were mediocre for taste and presentation. In short, it seemed like management was more defensive and unwilling to acknowledge any issues at hand and not take responsibility for the lack of communication between staff, supervisors, etc. nor take any of what we had to say as troubling. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone due to the lack of customer service. It is quite unfortunate as the hotel is beautiful and the location was really convenient.

We were on "The Ridge" for the Sunday September 14 Hurricane Odile. The staff was INCREDIBLE! I want to thank ALL of the Solmar/Playa Grande Staff for doing ALL that they could do in a BAD situation! Muchas Gracias!!

This resort is top notch. The resturants are excellent and the wait and pool staff are even better. Our waiter at the pool was Samael and I wish we could bring him home with us. Unfortunately we had a bad incident with some theft from our room by the cleaning staff. Fortunately, after I reported it, the item was "placed" back in our room and found by the same person(s). Unfortunately for them, they "hid" it in a spot that I had personally searched multiple times. I'm glad we got the item back as it was a family heirloom but my suggestion is leave your valuables at home. Also, when we got home we found one of our credit cards had been hacked and used to make fraudelent purchases in Mexico and Souther california. I can't prove who it was but my advice is don't let your cards out of your signt.

They defiantly should not be taking reservations yet. We were assure the pool was back up and running. Of course that was a lie. The main pool is drained. The lower pool with the swim up bar is full and you are welcome to use it at your own risk. The pump is kind of working and its murky. Oh and the swim up bar is mot being manned if that sounded fun. Not that this resort was ever good at keeping that bar manned, the lowest pool is a kiddy area and I did get the sense there was any chlorine being used. Uhhg!! The food choices are very limited at this resort and just for fun on this trip they gave us all a free upgrade to e. Coli157. really thought my father and I were going to Die. We also had a light mishap with the room that they told us would be no problem. we hung around all day the first day and then were told nothing could be done. When we got upset the little *&^% behind the counter "Carlos" told us that he never said he could do any thing to help. The manager was also a real smerky jerk. Hey guys, Thanks for wasting our whole first day!! All together a okay trip, except for the resort experience.
