TOMORROW is the day for many!  May 1st National College Decision Day for some..."Before a Decision"
+The Huffington Post @huffpost#collegeadmissions#students   #parents

- It's true that one of the hardest places to be is right before a decision. Options to weigh, pros and cons to think about and discuss, research to do and connections to make can be a few of the mind queries before a decision is made. Before a decision is made about which college to attend, several variables should be carefully reviewed

8 student confessions that make me think differently about money — and merit  +Upworthy  #students  +Columbia University @columbia

At Top Schools, a Spot on the Wait List May as Well Be a Rejection +Bloomberg Business #waitlists #students   #parents   #collegeadmissions

- College applicants who are put on a wait list—unable to rejoice at their success or fully wallow in rejection—may not know just how to feel about the news. At a handful of ultra-selective colleges, the answer is unambiguous: A spot on the wait list is tantamount to rejection.

Your odds of getting off the wait list at Stanford, Johns Hopkins, and MIT are close to nothing.

Are college admissions applications outdated and inefficient? +Washington Post @washpost  #students   #collegeadmissions

- Despite the stakes involved, the college admissions process remains incredibly inefficient, and in many ways, ineffective. Colleges annually buy lists from testing companies that have the names of hundreds of thousands of students who scored above a certain threshold on the SAT or the ACT, and then the colleges start marketing to them. If anything has changed, it is how early that marketing begins.

read later: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2015/04/27/are-college-admissions-applications-outdated-and-inefficient/
In the Internet era, college applications are less useful to colleges, and students are applying to so many schools that it's less of an indication that they want to attend.

How Colleges Are Screwing Students Like Me Over +The Huffington Post @huffpost#students

- The average university student in 1979 only had to work 182 hours per year (a part-time summer job) to pay for tuition. In 2013, the average student had to work 991 hours (a full-time job) for half the year to pay for tuition, according to Michigan State University Research Assistant Randy Olson.

College shouldn't cost that much. There is no justifiable reason as to why we have to pay that much money. None....

Here Are Some Of The Big Names Giving Commencement Addresses In 2015 +The Huffington Post @huffpost #commencement   #students   #graduation

- Every year, colleges and universities book big name celebrities, business men and women, politicians and philanthropists for commencement addresses.
