Concerns with Local Authority Care - The legal framework within Care Proceedings is in place to 'safeguard and promote' the welfare of children. There is in fact a duty upon Local Authorities , under Section 22(3) to do so, however the extent to which this is enacted has come under scrutiny with regards to care leavers.

Limit to Mother's Rights to Accommodation - The Court of Appeal recently found that a child's right to stay in the UK did not give his mother the right to claim housing benefit.

Sarb Gosal a partner in the Private Resolution Department said, "This case illustrates one of the limits of consideration of the overriding needs of the child".

Consumers get more clout with new laws - Consumers who are subjected to lies or pressure selling by unscrupulous traders have new rights from October.

When the changes come into effect, the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Regulations will give consumers the right to unwind contracts, claim a discount or raise a claim for damages against businesses who have subjected them to misleading or aggressive tactics.
