In 1994, Vijay Bist acted on his immense passion of Indian cuisine & hospitality by opening his first restaurant in Mountain View, and the rest as they say is history.  Bist introduced Indian hospitality, service, wine selection & menus which were unknown in the Bay Area and set a high standard for Indian food, which he follows till date. Impeccable service and authentic Indian food not only had a huge fan following but critics and reviewers alike noticed this restaurant.  Amber India in Mountain View earned the reputation of the best Indian Restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Low rating because of following reasons: Generally, when you go, the guy at desk would be polite enough to welcome. Instead, he said let's see what we can do for you. It's a put off for me. I went with my family. Inside, we're given seats adjacent to bar, and we are all non alcoholic. I requested to give a vacant - with no reservation sign - table. The guy without hesitation saying NO, and if I don't take I've to wait an hour. I see some other guys soon occupying the table - it does not seem they had reservations. Food they brought later on had burnt roti, which I objected. He took away, and immediately came back with a rearrangement of same things! At that time, I felt like to walk out. Overall the experience was a bitter taste in the mouth, and decided never go there again!

this indian buffet has the best selection i've seen anywhere. they had at least 15 different dishes that were waiting to be consumed by me. ultra high props for the lamb curry. the sauce was thick + full of flavor and the meat was tender. i also liked their vegetable curry. you get what you paid for and this place (around $20 per person) definitely delivers!

Indian isn't my favourite cuisine, but I thought Amber served up some decent dishes. I really enjoyed the samosas and naan bread, and sampled a little bit of all the dishes from the set menu. None of them were overly memorable, but I can't recall any issues either. They accommodated our large group well, although service wasn't too attentive, needing to ask for extra glasses and follow up on orders a few times. The staff were lovely though.

Food, interior, service, and everything was great. My friend and I ordered samosas and the butter chicken with rice and garlic naan, and everything tasted amazing. We both got very full from what we shared, so I would say the portions were just enough! The restaurant is clean and nicely decorated, although it may not look as classy and cool outside. The workers were also super attentive and nice, so I felt like I was at a $$$$ restaurant! I'll definitely come back!

Honestly, not a fan. Had the food here and I was pretty underwhelmed by the experience. I had heard great things about this spot and it missed the mark. There are tons of awesome indian restaurants in the South Bay, and this one definitely has a nicer ambiance than others (which may be why it is so popular). The food was just not that good. Got the butter chicken and it tasted like chicken cooked in campbells tomato soup. Not a fan.

Pretty average Indian food, not nearly as flavorful as some of the places I frequent in Chicago. We came here with a large group (about 25 people) and were seated at three tables scattered in a section, which I suppose was the best they could do - but made it hard to talk to everyone without getting up and switching seats. The menu was very meat heavy and although the samosas and naan were good, I would have liked to see more vegetarian friendly options (note: i am not a vegetarian).

We have excellent Indian food here in London, so as a Brit I had already set unfairly high standards for Amber India. I found the food decidedly average; good but not amazing. The staff were great and very accommodating to us as we were such a large party, though I had to ask for drinks and water several times before it arrived at our table. I also found the decor a little shabby, and it just made the whole place seem a little tired.
