I was just reading a WP article about the Wisconsin legal challenge to partisan gerrymandering. Here is my simple and self-correcting solution to the problem - let the minority party do the redistricting.

The minority party would gerrymander until it wins a majority, and then the redistricting power would switch to the new minority. This would constantly drive district composition to the center and prevent one party from digging in its dominant position. I think this would give voters more confidence in the system, and give something to the minority party that gives them hope for the future - and thus might make them less intractable.

So. It appears I was wrong about Alex taking 2nd place in the 400m race at the Raleigh end of season track meet. He took FIRST in his age group. The kid that squeaked past him was in an older age bracket. :D He also took 2nd place in the long jump for his age group. Congratulations Son!!!

Congratulations to my son, Alex, for taking silver in the 400m race during the final city wide Raleigh track meet! I don't know yet how he placed on the standing long jump, but it was a personal best there also. :)

This pretty much sums up my thinking regarding the current political situation in the US and abroad. I also pair this with my observation that when a crisis occurs people do the polar opposite of what would actually help resolve the crisis. I don't know why that is true, but it sure seems that way to me.
Short version: The working class stop supporting social democracy when the politicians under its banner are actually just neoliberals in the sway of big money.

It says something about my expectations of the incoming president that when a reporter said something about the "people in the area up front" I heard "people in the Aryan Front" and found it plausible. Maybe I ended my news fast too early?

I love infographics, so this was right up my alley. It is really interesting to me to see how stark the urban-rural cultural divide is.

It goes a long way towards explaining why political life here in NC is so baffling to an urban dweller like me. "Wait! That's not the NC that I know. We really aren't like that. Someone wake me up from this nightmare..."
