No, I legitimately think GTA 5 is utter trash.
To that end calling the gameplay of The Last of Us standard is moronic. None of it is uncharted territory, but everything serves a purpose. It's a combat system that rewards preparation and thought. As well as a good aim. But the reason it's not standard is because of its coalescence to the actual game, the atmosphere, the themes. The menus never break you out of immersion, and you're always looking to conserve ammo and scavenge resources.
From a visual standpoint, there's nothing that could be accomplished by a prettier game. Especially considering prettier would only be relative, the game is f*cking gorgeous. It wouldn't contribute to the atmosphere, it wouldn't increase immersion, it wouldn't accomplish anything. The visuals of the game are everything they needed to be and more.
Now, I can speak just as much praise of Uncharted, MGS, or even LittleBIGPlanet, so don't think that I hold only this one game in such a high regard, I love The Last of Us because it's a game that was made for the sake of making a game, telling a story. It was a game where nothing was tacked on, not even the multiplayer. It doesn't gouge you for micro-transactions, and Naughty Dog didn't even humor the idea of a faulty release.
GTA 5 was trash. I fail to see how stealth is a game maker/breaker in a game whose title is literally stealing cars. Where the most popular thing to do is grab a gun and shoot random people. How is stealth revolutionary? Compare the racing/driving to a dated as hell game like Midnight Club 3 and the failings will immediately stand out.
The reason I'm focusing on The Last of Us so much is because this is a video about The Last of Us. This is a comparison to.
I still don't see what makes GTA V good. All I've gotten is:
"It's good because it's good" and "You're stupid because you don't think it's good."
Just Cause 2, Red Dead Redemption, InFamous, Prototype. To name a handful of sandbox games that are miles ahead of GTA 5 simply because they are fun.
