Great courses and very nice staff! I took a 4-week intensive course and was very happy with that. The teachers are very nice and competent and the classes are always small (1-5 students) which makes the courses very interactive. Changing courses is very easy, if you don't feel comfortable with your initial courselevel.

I used to work at TMI as a Mandarin teacher. They over scheduled us and gave us no time to prepare for our classes. When teachers complained about their schedules being overbooked, the management's response was, "It's okay, you don't have to prepare. You just have to chat with the students." TMI does not want professional teachers, they only want to use young and cheap and Mandarin speaking Taiwanese people. Their hiring criteria is that low. The management also did not properly assess students' level and did not let teachers tell the level of the students to the students. Students did not have an accurate understand of his or her level and therefore would be more willing to accept whatever level they are placed in. This makes it easier for TMI to put students in any class that is available instead of placing students at the right class for his or her level.

Best private chinese teaching place around. Somehow or another TMI has been able to get the cream of the crop teaching staff that really keeps you engaged in the class. The teachers are very clear and concise. The teachers wont just have you read off a textbook all day long, the teachers play card games, guessing games, do presentations on topics and have actice diacussions about them - all designed to create a active learning environmenr that WILL accelerate your chinese learning ability.

I used to work at TMI as a teacher. But the management was bad. The schedule was a mess and they often did not correctly assess the students' Mandarin level. I often had to work 8 hours a day, which left me little time to prepare for my classes which created a poor standard of teaching. This isn't just a problem that only I have experienced. It was a problem for all the full-time teachers. TMI did not care about this problem and only used teachers as tools to make money.

Classes are Monday through Thursday for two hours. I took the second level and they had two different teachers which I was personally not a fan of. Over all, its a pretty good private school to study Chinese.

I am very pleased with my experience at Taiwan Mandarin Institute. My class was small, 2 students, the teacher took her time with us making sure we understood the material well. I like the focus on speaking and learning useful words I am able to use everyday. The managers Mark and Kieran are friendly. They helped me out a few times when trying to find places to visit in Taiwan.

TMI shrimp fishing trip

A traditional Taiwan pastime
How to shrimp fish:
1. You have a rod, some chicken liver, and some dried prawns for your hook.
2. You sit and wait for the shrimp to take the bait.
3. While you're waiting, you can enjoy some food and drink.
4. Catch your shrimp and BBQ!

A unique part of Taiwanese culture from TMI.
