Sharon Deveau Handy has covered news in Maine for more than 30 years and has been the assignment editor at WMTW News 8 since 1998.
Growing up in the Orono-Old Town area, Sharon caught the news bug as a teenager in the 1970s. She was inspierd to pursue a career in journalism by the reporting of Woodward and Bernstein during the Watergate
scandal that led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation.
A graduate of the University of Maine with a BA in
journalism, Sharon began her career at the Lewiston Sun Journal. She spent 20 years at the
newspaper as a reporter and later editor. In 1998, at a friend's suggestion, she made the switch from print to television journalism and joined WMTW News 8.
She and her husband Jim live in Lewiston and are the
parents of three adult children.
