A public service announcement to promote the death of advertising on the internet. Please share with as many brainwashed, consumerist slaves as possible...

Probably not. But it's the right of advertisers to advertise, and the right of people like me to use Adblock and oppose advertising. In fact, you can calibrate it to accept certain ads, so it's not quite the nuclear option many people imagine.

I'm not sure that getting the internet free is necessarily a good thing, given the trade-off. I recently moved to a paid email service (Runbox), rather than have Google trawl through my emails for advertising hooks, even if I don't see the ads.

In all honesty, my post was a bit of a provocation to see what response I'd get on the home of internet advertising, as well as a genuine attempt to spread the goodness of Adblock.

Departures & Arrivals (http://beautifulrailwaybridgeofthesilverytay.me/2013/06/21/departures-arrivals/)

Photos of a day trip from Campbeltown to Brodick last Friday, via Ardrossan. At which point the camera went doolally and claimed memory was full, despite deleting old images whenever I upload new photos.

As you can see, agreeably cloudy, but that didn’t stop me getting mildly roasted.

Texas pastor says if congregation members will help pay for his helicopter repairs, God will send them a car.

New Light Church pastor Bishop I.V. Hilliard told Houston, Texas, parishioners that if they each donated $52 each for replacement blades for his helicopter that God would reward the action with car repair or a new car.

Jesus!

Distillery (http://beautifulrailwaybridgeofthesilverytay.me/2013/06/22/distillery/)

A daily photo challenge is harder than it sounds, given that I seem to have run out of subjects within walking distance of my flat. You can only take so many photos of the same thing before it gets boring. So I’m grateful for this fine, handsome, disused distillery building. And surprised, because I didn’t know it was there.

Given the suspicion that Google colluded with the NSA in violating our privacy, they certainly haven't done themselves any favours by dragging their heels over this court order.

I'm sure Texas is keen to make the Big 500 - will there be a cake? - regardless of the blatant racial discrimination in the trial.

Does anybody actually believe a word of this?
Larry Page and Mark Zuckerberg sharply deny knowledge of Prism until Thursday even as Obama confirms program's existence

+Bodhipaksa Dharmacari I agree - but that was not the issue in question. That was 'Is Google etc lying when they deny knowledge of prism' - I say there is nothing in this story to suggest they (and others) were not just responding to 'standard legal requests'. Some requests are too broad and are regularly disputed. I have no doubt the NSA is doing dodgy stuff but that should not automatically implicate other organisations. That is happening via lazy journalism.
