Retirement.. its been something that has been on my mind for a while now..and i think it is time to take a break from Ingress and the Investigation. I might return in the future..but there would have to be something to draw me back.

Ingress was a game changer for me in many ways. It got me out of the house and led me to incredible discoveries and adventures. Ive met some incredible people, and it was a pleasure to dive deep into the investigation with many fine folks, for 6 years. No other game or concept has held my attention for so long, and it is because of the community that my interest has lasted. So thank you to the friends ive worked with, its been an honor, and kudos to Ingress for creating a valuable life experience. I will still play now and then, perhaps for some special events, but it is going to be for my own journey.

So why now? especially when Prime just launched? Prime is a start in the right direction yes, but waiting another year for new features, in all honestly, just makes me want to stop and take a break. View the following not as a rant, but as constructive criticism.

There are two things I feel the need to talk about.

1- lack of innovation. lets be honest, Ingress has always had incredible potential. But you can only click hack and link so many thousands of times before you just lose motivation. There was hope over the years for improvement. Think of missions, so much potential but nothing was ever improved upon, or functionality added. Think of Endgame, the whole concept of an augmented RPG was intriguing. Finding rare artifacts, like finding that rare piece of armor, for visiting historical landmarks or incredible locations was awesome in concept..but it never saw the light of day. In a way I was glad when the project got canned. People have enough issues separating reality from conceptual/virtual reality. In a society where violence is an everyday occurrence, playing an augmented reality game where you can virtually buy a gun to use on someone ...I was never comfortable with that concept. It would only have been a matter of time before someone took it to far. Even Ingress has had its extremists who have crossed a line, now think of a game that introduces violent confrontation? No thank you, were not ready. However, what went right was Ancient Societies. Diving deep into history and culture, exploration, puzzle solving etc.. was an incredible adventure. I was hoping to see some of the best of that world taken and improved upon for ingress- it was not. Sadly we see the same formula for every anomaly, for every piece of the story. Two sides continually fighting to win control of this or that, with no discernible point or actual depth. A story that constantly self-references its own lore as its definition for new events..im sorry but is it trying to go anywhere or just in circles?..Dont get me wrong, there are some fantastic elements in the story, but there is nothing wrong with trying something new..Niantic, don’t be scared to innovate! I don’t want to wait till we are on Hank Johnson #3 for a new experience. One reason I was involved with the Morpheus project was to help people see what was possible. Engaging agents in new ways, having interactive dead drops, rewards ,creating new forms of puzzles, all adding to the intrigue of the game and sparking something new..Morpheus was probably one of the most memorable and rewarding projects ive ever been involved in. I hope Niantic took note and will try to engage people, from all over the world, in much the same innovative way. But this brings me to my second reason for retiring from public ingress life...

2) Elitism and faction politics... I wont go into to much detail here, but the current platform places players in control of what other people do. This has created an environment where so called "elite" people, who basically have more contacts or authority to make decisions, can exercise their authority over others when they have their own vendettas or agendas. Many ingress communities are not democracies, there are people behind the curtains who should be fully transparent and neutral in their decisions over other players..but they are not..why? because then they would be held accountable. I understand Niantics position here, they need help to manage events, and they have a willing work-force in the player base, additionally self-organized player groups are not niantics responsibility to manage...however..Niantic lets be honest here, when such player groups mange your anomalies it is your responsibility to provide oversight and deal with how these events are managed in a more responsible way. Ive been saddened to see many instances were people have kicked others off the hill because they’ve tried to reach new heights.

So that’s all I have to say for now. To my fellow enlightened players, thank you for help and support over the years. To my fellow Essex investigators, thank you for your dedication, passion, and for your sharing your incredible talents. Ill see you around the substrate.

#6TruthseekingYears

It has been an incredible 6 years of the investigation. Untangling this spider web has been challenging, fun and frustrating at times. There have been some exciting opportunities for me- serving as a POC/Embedded Reporter, speaking with and interviewing +Edgar Allan Wright in an online hangout session, visiting NL-Prime in Nagoya, investigating the XM Profiler in Pallet Town, and searching for the answers for the countless questions that have been asked. This investigation has had an effect on me, perhaps caused by my own XM exposure. Before the events of the Morpheus project I was known as m3taphor. However I connected somehow with IotaPrime, an investigator from the prime universe- the same universe as EAW, the same universe we know find ourselves interacting with. I now interact as this agent in the Prime scanner. We will see where the next years lead us..

I leave you with a reminder of one the pieces most relevant to the times in which we live.

While some would have you believe that Exotic Matter isnt dangerous to us, the facts of the past 6 years reveal otherwise.. Consider just a few simple facts on what XM exposure has done to the researchers themselves:

- Nigel experimented on his own family, ignoring all ethical bounds. When asked by Susanna if he felt XM was controlling him through his actions he replied “To my great regret, yes, Susanna, I do believe that.”
- During Epiphany night, after an enormous release of exotic matter, each of the members of the team underwent a period of profound mental acceleration which unleashed their genius. Two team members Devra and Roland even vanished.
- Klue once stated “People dosed (with XM) see the future and the past”
- Amassing XM allowed Misty to physically teleport herself.
- OLW once stated “ If you start messing around with Dark XM without my help, not even your children will recognize you”
- Hank was resurrected by Dark XM as a Simulacra.
- Devra exposed the homeless, teenagers and others to XM. This drove them to violence and insanity.
- Hank stated that when exposed to living material in sufficiently high quantities, Dark XM causes immediate and irreversible physical damage. Body tissue is charred, almost fossilized. Its full effects are not understood

While XM carries with it certain risks and rewards, one thing is certain- you experiment with XM, Dark XM, and CM at your own risk, but is the reward worth the risk?

One of the most unique places I’ve ever been is Takachiho Gorge, in Miyazaki prefecture, Japan.

https://ingress.com/intel?ll=32.707281,131.3029&z=17&pll=32.706496,131.302041

We wanted to go to a place full of mythology and culture, and completely away from the world that we knew. So we planned a trip to Japan. It took us 8000 Km away with several flights, trips via Shinkansen and other local trains, bus, many footsteps, and then we finally arrived at the gorge. According to Japanese mythology, Takachiho is were Amaterasu hid and deprived the world of light, hiding after the bad behavior of her brother. Amanoiwato, the cave of the sun goddess or heavenly rock cave, always sounded to me like an ancient magnus nest or anomalous zone. We were not allowed to take pictures of the cave, but we took a few along the way. There is a river up the gorge where you can see incredible rock formations, waterfalls and jungle. It was an incredible journey and I was happy to go there alongside my wife, agent M3loetta, and our good friend agent Vaanhoot. Part of me thinks there could be artefacts near this location of incredible power and significance. Perhaps +Hank Johnson could take a look one day? or perhaps Makoto?
