The owner was not sure if he found termites in his investment property - Miami Gold Coast.
During our inspection, we found live termite activity in the subfloor, walls ground floor, ceiling cavity, walls second floor and roof void. The video shows live termites repairing the nest in the subfloor (the owner forgot to NOT DISTURB TERMITES!)
When did you have your last termite inspection? 0477 055 044

HOW DO TERMITES FIND THE LEAK BEHIND THE BATH TUB/SHOWER ON THE SECOND FLOOR ?

We all know a shark can smell a drop of blood in the water miles away. We also know if we leave food on the kitchen bench, often we suddenly have an invasion of ants.

Now compare termites with little sharks, they smell rotting-wood (molecules) /moisture in the soil from a long distance. Any leak, take a little crack in the grout of your shower, water typically travels to the lowest point, inside a home this would be the slab. Any timber molecules in this moisture either sipping through a little crack in the grout or next to a drainage pipe through the slab, will end up in the soil underneath or next to the slab of your home.

This little crack with the smell of moisture/timber molecules is then used by these little sharks to follow this trail the same way up to your bathtub. Welcome to McTermite!

Get ready for Summer!
Pest Control Tips Around the House and Garden

Eaves and Walls:
Check your eaves and brickwork for wasp nests and spiders.
Be particularly cautious of redback spiders. They spin very tangled webs and often show up around weep holes.
Make sure there are no large gaps (6mm or more) in the eaves leading up into the roof void – leaving a highway for rodents to find a new home. Yes they’re still a problem in summer!

Doorways and Windows:
Make sure doors are well sealed to keep rodents out (not just the rainy weather). If you don’t have good door seals, head down to your local hardware shop and get some.
Pay special attention to garage doors and sheds – they commonly don’t close up all that well and rodents love these areas.

Bins:
Keep bins away from the immediate vicinity of the home.
Keep them as clean as possible and wash them out regularly.
Keep bins well sealed. They are a great breeding environment for flies and can encourage rodents.
Oh, and another thing. Don’t put things like meat, seafood scraps etc in a bin more than 24-48 hours before collection – hot sun and time is a bad combination. (maggot time – and the smell doesn’t go down too well with the neighbours).

Trees and Foliage:
Foliage against the house can create a highway for ants, rodents, spiders and termites.
Make sure that bushes and shrubs are kept well away from the walls.
Trim off any tree branches that overhang the roof and gutters (yet another highway for ants and rodents).

Swings, outdoor furniture and fence lines:
Look out for redback spiders. If you discover them you can attempt to remove them yourself (but don’t get bitten) and take down the webs and egg sacks. If you’re not sure – call 0477 055 044 for professional help.

Standing water and water containers:
Make sure that water containers are emptied. This includes pot plant reservoirs.
Any container that holds water (where levels rise and fall) will encourage mosquitoes to breed.
Keep an eye out for drains that hold puddles, car tyres and old buckets that everyone forgets about.

Some of the worst breeds of mosquitoes for spreading disease are ‘container breeders’.

Screens:
Make sure that your home is properly screened. This will keep invasion from cockroaches, flies and mosquitoes to minimal levels since they all love to fly inside to explore and find new ‘digs’.
Don’t rely on fly spray too much or those nasty ‘timed’ mist units.
