To create/drop tables without worrying about foreign key checks, you can temporarily disable foreign_key_checks.

> If set to 1 (the default), foreign key constraints for InnoDB tables are checked. If set to 0, they are ignored. Typically you leave this setting enabled during normal operation, to enforce referential integrity. Disabling foreign key checking can be useful for reloading InnoDB tables in an order different from that required by their parent/child relationships. See Section 14.2.6.6, “InnoDB and FOREIGN KEY Constraints”.

The problem In an earlier post I presented a method for unit testing SQLAlchemy applications cleanly, without leaving any trace of the tables created during the run of the test suite. However, the problem with this method was...

Indeed. It's a good solution if you only care about MySQL though. I do something similar to what you did for Postgres.

I just started consulting with TapSavvy. I started talking to them before their initial launch and met with them as they were getting ready to work on their actual launch product. It's interesting what they were able to do in 5 days. I look forward to working with them and seeing what we can cook up next.

So I get to the coffee shop so I can focus on getting some work done without the kids running around the house and distracting me. Of course when I get here there's a group with 3 kids making noise. No big deal, they were here first although I'm not sure how much coffee toddlers need. They leave shortly after I arrive. Of course right after they leave another group of people with 3 kids enters the room with other people clearly trying to get work done and meeting with clients. There's a half dozen empty tables but for some reason that seems to defy all decency they sit at the table right next to me. Mind you this coffee shop has two areas, the front which is lively and the back that is full of people getting shit done. I'm of course in the back area trying to get my own shit done.

Now I'm in this awkward spot where I'm typing away (to bitch on google+) and there's another group of people right next to me in a nearly empty room. That's like entering an almost empty bus and sitting next to the only other person there. Don't be that guy.

I'm a parent. I have two young kids. I know how frustratingly annoying and noisy kids can be. I've accepted long ago that there's certain places I shouldn't take them because I want to treat those around me with the same respect I'd expect them to give me. I take my kids with me when I work from coffee shops sometimes but that's because they're old enough to entertain themselves with their iOS apps and to keep quite and respect the silence of others. Still, when I take my kids to places that clearly aren't designed for children I make sure to sit as far away as fucking possible from the guy hunched over a laptop intensely staring at the screen.

In all things, treat others as you expect to be treated. More importantly, don't piss in their coffee if you wouldn't want them pissing in yours.
