The US shares the blame for a massacre in Mexico. The "war on drugs" has been part of American policy for so long that it's sometimes difficult to remember that the DEA wages that war every day, on both sides of the border with Mexico.

This interview was conducted by Kathy Corcoran and took place in a busy bookstore in La Condesa, Mexico City, just after the release of his book “Narcoperiodismo”. Valdez was an award-winning, internationally recognized journalist and author, and a kind, generous and affable person.
He was gunned down on a busy street in Sinaloa on May 15, 2017.

At least eight people were killed on Monday in a shootout between gang members and army troops in the Mexican resort town of San Jose del Cabo in Baja California Sur state, local security services said.
San Jose del Cabo, as well as its neighboring Cabo San Lucas, are among Mexico’s major tourist destinations. The twin resorts, located on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, have seen escalating drug cartel violence over the past year.

A former Mexican state governor, Javier Duarte, who has been on the run for six months was arrested on Saturday, police said. The former governor of Veracruz state, is suspected of corruption, involvement in organized crime, and embezzling millions.
He is suspected of having siphoned off at least 645 million Mexican pesos ($35m) of public money that was put into a series of shell companies.

Guzman aka #ElChapo departed Ciudad Juarez to New York at 3.15 pm local time, one U.S. official said. The Mexican court system said in a statement Guzman would be tried in Texas and California.
Mexico extradited top drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to New York on Thursday, ending a career that included two jail breaks and a leading role in a national drug war, the day before Donald Trump assumes the U.S. presidency.
"The government ... today handed Mr Guzman Loera to the U.S. authorities," the foreign ministry said in a statement, referring to a court decision on Thursday rejecting a legal challenge by his lawyers against extradition.
Guzman is charged in six separate indictments throughout the United States. He faces charges ranging from money laundering to drug trafficking, kidnapping and murder in cities that include Chicago, Miami and New York.
Guzman departed Ciudad Juarez to New York at 3.15 pm local time, one U.S. official said. The Mexican court system said in a statement Guzman would be tried in Texas and California.
It was not immediately clear if the timing of the move was an olive branch to Trump or a last-minute gift to outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama.

All state governments in Mexico manipulate crime data. Crime data provided by Mexico’s federal government is regularly manipulated to make it seem like there is a decrease in high-impact crime, according to the nonprofit statistics agency México Evalúa.
There is an overall manipulation in data in all states in Mexico concerning all crimes.
