Please help out our local food bank (run by my Better Half) by making a donation. It would mean a lot to me, my wife and our neighbors who are in need.

The Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge is famously full of natural beauty, and is experiencing an economic boom of sorts. While there's some pretty ridiculous wealth and copious agricultural bounty here, we also have some ridiculous poverty that is quite understandably overlooked by tourists and some of the recent aerospace-industry transplants. By most estimates, we have nearly 1000 area children and even more seniors who experience some type of "food insecurity". For an area with such low population density, this is a surprisingly huge percentage of our local population.

The Food Bank provides healthy, fresh emergency food as well as education opportunities to help with self-sufficiency. However, the long, difficult road out of poverty can only start with a full stomach - and knowing where one's next meal will come from.

This fundraiser is for a very specific, very EXPENSIVE, mission-critical item: an energy-efficient commercial freezer for a new, more accessible location in order to help stretch their limited operating budget even further. I shot a video to help explain it a little better. Please, please take the time to watch. Thanks for your help...every little bit helps!

Read an excerpt of The Road by Cormac McCarthy to David Theune's English Class at Spring Lake High School, Spring Lake, MI.   It was the part where the man and the boy find the dead baby roasting on a campfire... a scene that makes me choke up when I hear it.  But I didn't cry!
