Have you ever thought about your digital footprint? All the information you share on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter – all of it – is this a good idea or the worst idea ever?

Someone is actually looking at all this stuff.

What do kids want to play on? If you said "A giant chair" ... you'd be right according to Susann Stein.

Since it has gone on display, this is proving to be a very popular entry.

I strongly believe that architects have the perfect set of skills to help charitable organizations with their outreach events and local needs. I manifest this belief into a competition that designs and builds playhouses that get donated to a local charity that benefits abused and neglected kids. These might just look like playhouses but they are really far more important for what they represent.
This past weekend was the culmination of several months of coordination, design and construction ... and the Life of an Architect 2015 Playhouse 'Outdoor Movie Theater' was delivered

A different sort of day in The Life of an Architect, one that didn't go exactly as expected ... I was in a wheelchair.
It should be noted that I am not disabled in any way ... but I still spent the day in a wheelchair. What I learned from the experience had a profound experience on me.

When did "Close enough" become "Good enough"?

Few people are aware of where the line exists when budget and desire converge and diverge. Sooner or later, a decision has to be made by the person writing the checks, when they have to decide if they want more, or do they want better … or do they want both?

That's what I am getting at when I say "You can't eat your house and have it too" - it's hard to get both and it's rare that you get to work on a project when time and money aren't the major considerations when making a decision.

Working hard when you don’t have to is a trait that not everyone possesses.

Architects - whether or not it's actually a good thing - actually have this trait in excess.

Story
Introduction
I am a licensed architect in Dallas, happily married to my wife Michelle (frequent collaborator and muse) and we have one daughter - Kate. A majority of the projects I develop are private residences but my firm also specializes in the design of fire stations and retail environments. In 2009, I received the Dallas Chapter American Institute of Architects "Young Architect of the Year" award, but it was probably for volunteering to do things that others wouldn't, shouldn't or couldn't.  For the most part life is good and I am a happy guy. I started my blog on March 4th, 2010 to learn the technology behind social media. I don't really have a list of burning issues or a controversial social agenda to promote, for the most part, I'm just a regular guy (except I put my pants on both legs at once because it's faster that way).-You can email me at:bob@lifeofanarchitect.com(particularly if you have something cool to say or an idea for a topic)
