The Ashraya Initiative for Children (AIC) is a home for street kids and various community outreach projects located in Pune, India. We operate 4 programs: a Residential Program, an Education Outreach, a Health Outreach and a Community Outreach Program.
The Residential Program provides a permanent home and family to 12 former street children who have been orphaned or abandoned. The Education Outreach Program provides material, emotional, and academic support to about 200 street and slum children ages 3 to 18. In addition to providing free access to essential medical treatment at our clinic and through specialists all around Pune, the Health Outreach Program concentrates on three key areas: preventative health education, patient advocacy and health empowerment. Our Community Outreach Program focuses on community building and development through legal advocacy workshops, adult literacy classes, vocational training and micro-credit savings groups.
