". . . I had no prior knowledge of the Watergate break-in; I neither took part in nor knew about any of the subsequent coverup activities; I neither authorized nor encouraged subordinates to engage in illegal or improper campaign tactics." (also: "I am not a crook.")
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky."
"Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."
"We don't have a domestic spying program."
Really poor move on their part yet again. The automatic opt-in without notification that they keep pushing is insulting to the users and is only going to continue to piss them off.
Considering the inevitable comparisons between Facebook and Google+, Facebook working hard to match Google+'s innovation, and the fact that Gmail is the #1 email service used, might this be indication of Facebook's continued effort to undermine Google's recent success in social media? Covertly swapping out people's Gmail addresses for Facebook addresses as the point of contact? Hmmm.... has to make you wonder. ;)
ETA: Forbes has a great article on this, passed on via :
Facebook's Lame Attempt To Force Its Email Service On You
"After all, it should be up to Facebook users to determine the information in their profile about how they want to be contacted, not Facebook. I hope they don’t start taking other liberties with my profile page, changing my interests, hobbies, and 'in a relationship with' to 'Facebook. Only Facebook.'”
ETA 2: Okay, so the plot thickens. I tipped off to the change, and he said, "Oh, mine is still Gmail. All good." I double checked, told him no, it definitely changed, go look. After some confusion, we realized that he immediately just went directly into his settings (without checking his profile first to verify the email change) to switch the default email back to his Gmail, but in the settings, it still shows your default email selected as whatever you had previously. I noticed this with mine, too, and went through the same confusion when I tried to switch. Seems logical that if something is wrong with your email address, you would change this in settings, just like with every other website.
Thankfully, in my case, I had first checked my profile to confirm it had switched, then went to the settings, so I knew something was amuck when I saw the default in my settings didn't match what was showing as my default on my profile, and I investigated further. I then followed the article's instructions, and found how to actually edit it.
However, given 's confusion, had I not also been mislead and was able to properly direct him after I learned from my error, he might have mistakenly thought his email address was still correct and left it at that. Facebook's email would have remained his default. Either Facebook is being super sneaky about this, or the whole thing is just an ugly mess. Either way, it doesn't bode well for them.
