"The Sun, The Moon, and Talia" originally appeared in the Pentamerone of Giambattista Basile (1566-1632) and is one of the earliest known variants of the story known as "Sleeping Beauty."

In 2015 I was asked to adapt it as a radio drama for an anthology series that was never produced. Now you can read it on the New Play Exchange.

Note: like many medieval fairytales, it has dark themes, and our current twenty-first century mores would deem it inappropriate for younger audiences.

On The Arts Fuse, I review SpeakEasy Stage Company's production of Robert Askins' Tony-nominated comedy, HAND TO GOD -- it's a genuinely funny play about sex, blasphemy, and Christian ministry puppets, but just how edgy it really is it really?

Currently running at the Boston Center for the Arts.

On The Arts Fuse, I review Apollinaire Theatre Company's production of Alistair McDowall's BRILLIANT ADVENTURES, kitchen sink drama with a time machine in the living room, running at Chelsea Theatre Works and directed by Danielle Fauteux Jacques.
It's an excellent way to start 2017.

On The Arts Fuse, I review Carrie J. Preston's "Learning to Kneel: Not, Modernism, and Journeys in Teaching." Preston explores the influence of the Noh repertoire on 20th century western modernists like Ezra Pound, William Butler Yeats, Benjamin Britten (and to a lesser extent Bertolt Brecht and Samuel Beckett) while also tracing how Japanese artists embraced modernism in the same era.

On The Arts Fuse:

In an election year that often seems like grotesque farce, Lyric Stage Company offers up political intrigue and tragedy with their production of Kenneth Lin's WARRIOR CLASS -- fans of the American version of "House of Cards" will likely be thrilled; as Lin also writes for the series -- but I wonder if this is part of a trend where writers increasingly see theater as just a stepping stone to television.

Dawn M. Simmons directs.

On The Arts Fuse, I review Company One Theatre's production of Alice Birch's REVOLT. SHE SAID. REVOLT AGAIN. The script is fascinatingly weird and unruly but I feel that that director Summer L. Williams and dramaturg Jessie Baxter take an approach that is entirely too earnest and pedestrian, out of touch with the ironies in Birch's script and the historical era Birch is lampooning.

On Arts Fuse, I review Actors' Shakespeare Project's production of HAMLET currently running at the Church of the Covenant in Boston. This is a must-see both for director Doug Lockwood's simultaneously deconstructive and reconstructive approach, and for Omar Robinson's virtuoso performance as the Prince of Denmark alongside an equally excellent supporting cast.

On The Arts Fuse, I review Israeli Stage's presentation of Yahir Eliahu Vaknin's FERTILE, a play about a woman born with neither uterus, fallopian tubes, nor ovaries. The staged reading, directed by Guy Ben-Aharon features a virtuoso solo performance by Romana Lisa Alexander.

On The Arts Fuse, I review Zeitgeist Stage Company's production of EIGHT BY TENN, eight one-act plays by Tennessee Williams currently running at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Sadly, I only had space to write about five of the eight plays -- but the other three are terrific as well.

David Miller directs.
