I always eat here for special occasions because I'm never disappointed. I love the prime rib, furikake salmon on noodles & the bacon wrapped scallops. My boyfriend can't stray from their shrimp scampi! He loves it. For appetizers, I recommend the escargot, sauteed mushrooms & the clams. If you expect speedy service, it's a hit and miss only because of how busy it can be. But I don't mind.

If you are looking for a good Hilo standard fine dinning restaurant, seaside is the place to go. Waiters come around often to ask if you want refills on beverages. Mud pie is the best in town. Mud pie has cofffee ice cream with oreo cookie crust

This place was a pleasant surprise. The French onion soup was soothing, the macademia crusted Mahimahi was gentle, and the shrimp scampi was a thing of beauty.

Disappointing. The restaurant was recommended to me by a native and current resident of Hilo who I've known for over 50 years. He recommended the Aholehole crispy fried fish. The waitress said it was a whole fish from head to tail. This sounded good. What was brought to my table were three small fish which was very disappointing because they were very bony with very little meat. I was told it that is just how it comes--by weight. When I left I was told that I should have asked how many and what size fish I would get. I live in Michigan and none of the fish would have been of legal size. Largest was maybe 10" head to tail. Smallest was 5 inches. Coffee was weak, roll ordinary, and very basic salad. Worst $50 meal I've had in Hawaii in two weeks.

Mediocre food took a long time to get.

We had read the mixed reviews on this site, but since we were right across the street, decided to try the Seaside. Our servers were knowledgable and friendly. They made modifications to their menu items to suit our various dietary needs without complaint and the food - especially the scampi - was fantastic. Plus, their air conditioning was cooler than any place we had been in Hilo. Heavenly on a muggy, hot day. We plan to visit again very soon.

This is the only restaurant where I have ever ordered the main course again as the desert. This was back in late 90's
