Conference Details:
Event: SPE International Symposium and Exhibition on Formation Damage Control 2014
Date: 26th – 28th February 2014
Where: Lafayette, Louisiana USA
Venue: Hilton Lafayette
Stand No:  3

COREX UK once again had a great time exhibiting at this year’s SPE International Symposium on Formation Damage 2014. The Conference took place at the Hilton hotel, Lafayette, Louisiana on the 26th – 28th February 2014.

Our formation damage experts were on hand to offer technical insights and help clients explore the great opportunities & current developments COREX has in store for you for the forthcoming year.

The Symposium and Exhibition was organized by the SPE, with this year’s conference objective focusing on the range of challenges and remedies for all things related to the identification, prevention, and remediation of formation damage. The exhibition was a great success for the SPE but also for COREX, allowing us to showcase our commitment and exciting developments in the industry as we move forward at such an exhilarating pace.

FORMATION DAMAGE NEWS:

COREX brings to 2014 an increased capacity in the Formation Damage Laboratory by upgrading and commissioning an additional test rig for Reservoir Conditions Wellbore Operations testing. This extra capacity will increase the number of tests that can be run concurrently and will enhance turnaround time for Formation Damage studies.

For more information please don’t hesitate to contact us on +44 1224 7704434 to discuss the extra benefit this means for your company today!

SPOTLIGHT - Micro CT Scanning

CT scanning is commonly used in core analysis to examine full-diameter core, slabbed core, and core samples, to look for bedding features, fractures, cements, and heterogeneities. The resolution of the medical (and similar) scanners used is sufficient to show these coarse features but can generally not show individual grains, pores, micro-fractures, voids, and fine features. Micro-CT scanning utilises a different class of scanner that can show a significantly-greater level of detail; dependent upon sample size scanned features significantly smaller than 1µm in size can be revealed

Denim day...COREX helped change someone’s life today!!
Who knew that making an impact in your community could be done so stylishly..! On Friday 20th September 2013, COREX (UK) Ltd’s Team decided to join forces and give something back to their community by partaking in a UK wide fundraising effort ‘Jeans for Genes Day’. The day is marked to raise awareness and much needed financial support for children born with Genetic Disorders with an aim to change their world. Money raised goes towards the provision of funding for the care and support of children with genetic disorders through various grant programmes designed to help improve their way of life.
In what one could be described as a valiant effort to join forces, the COREX (UK) Team raised a total sum of £300. Staff members were encouraged to donate a mere £2 for the privilege to wear their denim items on the day, and in an effort to go the extra mile an in-house raffle was held on the day.
So well done to the COREX (UK) Team for an effort well executed! COREX Chief Executive Officer, Steve Anthony shared the positive sentiments from the board stating, “The directors would like to thank everybody who contributed to such a worthwhile cause and particular thanks to all of those who initiated and organised the fundraising effort – well done.”
And ... In the words of Winston Churchill (Dundee, 1908) “What is the use of living, if it not be to strive for noble causes and to make this muddled world a better place for those who will live in it after we are gone?”

COREX make further Technological advances into the Digital Age
ABERDEEN (October 31, 2013)
With the pace of technological advancement in the E&P industry increasing so rapidly, COREX's, Formation Damage team has upped the stakes further by transforming the way mico-CT scanning is utilized in Core Analysis.
During a recent one day AFES seminar themed "Core analysis in the Digital age",  COREX Formation Damage Expert, Justin Green presented an SPE published paper on Micro-CT scanning which highlighted the innovations COREX has made towards utilising this application further and the advances this technology has brought  into the operational output service companies can offer.
CT scanning has long been a tool used in core analysis, and Micro-CT scanning has provided new levels of detail, leading to applications including core characterization, pore network modeling, and digital porosity & permeability measurements. Mr. Green's paper explains how COREX have developed a range of techniques which add value to Formation Damage testing by mapping and quantifying changes in a sample. The technique allows greater interpretation of results and reduces operational risk in decision-making; the presentation introduced this new technique and applications as well as illustrated the technique in action through the recently published COREX case study: SPE paper 165110 ("Use of Micro –CT scanning Visualizations to improve interpretation of Formation Damage Laboratory Tests Including a Case Study from the South Morecambe Field").
Over the last few years, Core analysis has been used as a term to define not only the porosity and permeability of the reservoir rock, but also to unearth the fluid saturation and grain density. All of these measurements help geologists, engineers and drillers better understand the conditions of the well and its potential productivity. As mico-ct scanning, an element within the overall Core Analysis remit has developed, in conjunction with reservoir condition tests and other analysis, increasingly more valuable tools for aiding in the interpretation of formation damage study, have also advanced.
Aberdeen Formation Evaluation Society (AFES), October 2013 event featured more talks from industry experts, with topics that ranged from Digital Rock Physics, Pore Network Modelling, Digital Core Imaging plus other core analysis topics. The seminar aimed at showcasing how the use of these novel data types complement and enhance traditional core data, and provided delegates an excellent overview of this rapidly expanding subject.
AFES is actively involved in the promotion for the public benefit, education and knowledge in the scientific and technical aspects of formation evaluation.
