Live Music from the Poobahs at Aardvark Books Vide Grenier Sale Bank Holiday Monday 31st August 9am-3pm
There is a new look to Aardvark’s popular annual French inspired flea market, with this year’s live music being provided by Dave Luke’s new band the Poobahs. Consisting of Dave on Guitar and Vocals, John Hymas on Violin, Clovis Phillips on Accordion , and George Jackson on Drums, they bring a real toe-tapping feel-good vibe to everything they play.
Aardvark Books husband and wife team Sarah and Sheridan Swinson, had long wanted to emulate the French village events that they saw on holiday in different parts of France, and in 2008 the first Aardvark Vide Grenier was held on a blazing August day.
Since then whilst the weather has not always been kind, the spirit of France has always very much been present.
As Managing Director Sheridan Swinson puts it: “The best 'Vide-Greniers' always have some live music from an oompah band, a stall selling delicious and fattening food and a bar selling wine. All these elements we have tried to replicate, as nothing helps the search for a bargain like listening to cheerful music, and enjoying a glass or two of one’s favourite tipple!’
Anyone can book a table at £8 per space, and there are few restrictions on what can be sold. Stalls include local produce, as well as the contents of attics, sheds and cupboards (The French “vide-grenier” actually means “empty your attic”).
There will also be a book-signing by David Evans, of his new book: "Dawdling in the Dale" - photographic history of rural life in the Corvedale.
For more information please contact: Sheridan Swinson, Aardvark Books Ltd, The Bookery, Manor Farm, Brampton Bryan, Bucknell, Shropshire SY7 0DH; Tel: 01547 530744 Email: aardvaark@btconnect.com
