I'm adding my voice to support a #freeandopen web. Won't you join me?

Starting today, the world’s governments meet behind closed doors on the future of the Internet. Some governments want to increase censorship and regulate the web.

Tell them to keep it #freeandopen by signing the petition: http://goo.gl/tU9uY

Very alarming -- look at this ad placed in Pakistani newspapers today from the government, with a request for proposals to build a national URL filtering and blocking system. You can see more detail in this PDF on a Ministry of Information Technology site: http://ictrdf.org.pk/RFP-%20URL%20Filtering%20&%20Blocking.pdf

More than 7 million have signed the petition. Have you?
Google originally shared:

Thank you to the more than 7 million of you in the U.S. that took the time yesterday to petition Congress to stop #SOPA and #PIPA, two bills that would censor the web and impose burdensome regulations on American businesses. Please keep +1ing, tweeting and sharing the petition with your friends at http://www.google.com/takeaction.
Millions of Americans oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth in the U.S.. Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Sena...

Over the next two days, the ITU telecommunications meeting in Dubai will be drawing to a close. Some government resolutions that are still on the table open the door to increasing censorship and regulation of the Internet. Join millions to speak up in favor of keeping the web #freeandopenhttp://goo.gl/sjvPl

+Dan Rogart took me to Fleur de Lys tonight for an awesome belated birthday dinner. Halfway through the meal and lo and behold -- who should come and sit at the table next to us? Senator Dianne Feinstein with former Secretary of State George Shultz (who looks pretty damn good for 91, and just returned from a trip to China -- the things you learn by eavesdropping on public officials!) and friends. It took all my willpower not to go over to their table, and bang on their table, and yell out, "Senator Feinstein! Why do you hate the Internet? Whyyyyyy?" P.S. Our meal was delicious, but I'm going to have to take off four-and-a-half stars because the waiter mispronounced "spaetzle."
