Consumers Energy will be the Presenting Sponsor of the 2012 AuSable River Canoe Marathon!

Here are the details of Consumers Energy sponsorship, thanks to AuSable Marathon Oscoda Committee Chairman, Justin Griffith: The Ausable River Canoe Marathon would like to announce its new Presenting Sponsor, Consumers Energy. With the encouragement from Ted Matthews (Marathon Racer) to Jay Jacobs Consumers Energy Northern Michigan’s Area Manager. Already a fan of "the marathon" Jay went on a mission to increase the involvement of Consumers Energy in the marathon. His persistence paid off with a substantial financial sponsorship this year, and we are very grateful!

Consumers Energy has been a partner of the ARICM since its conception in 1947. With their continuous support. Consumers Energy has been, and always will be, a very integral component of the Marathon, and its success. Consumers Energy is celebrating their 125th anniversary and 65 years of involvement in the ARICM. Consumers Energy is a vital part of Northern Michigan's tourism and, energy needs. With the involvement of Consumers Energy in the Ausable River Valley they have created and maintained the magnificent backwaters of the Ausable River. Their efforts have provided and maintained many access sites on the Ausable River to encourage tourism.

Together, Consumers Energy and the Marathon work to promote
and expand the support of canoe racing, generate positive public exposure of the AuSable River Valley and increase public awareness of this unique natural resource while helping to protect it for future generations.

We are looking for a good race this year. Estimates on this years number of teams range from upper 60's to 88 from the two committees Grayling and Oscoda/AuSable.
