Dear Canada:

Please take back Ted Cruz. He is eviscerating the poor Republicans, and that's not very neighborly.

Breakfast experiment #129: Oatmeal Brulee. Cook steel-cut oats on the stovetop, top with blueberries and sugar, then convert the surface into sweet crunchy heaven with a creme #brulee torch.

I'll submerge the blueberries next time. They ended up a tad too charred.

Any excuse to play with #fire...

I have curly/wavy hair, and for some reason it's not so easy to get a decent haircut at a reasonable price. But I was VERY happy with the haircut I got from Eddy. My girlfriend loves it and says it's the best haircut she's seen on me (and we've been dating for more than a year). I'd say it's the best in years. He's a nice guy too. Not cheap but not nearly as expensive as many haircuts are in SF. Give Eddy a visit!

Excellent cafe and bistro, a little piece of Europe on Las Olas with a friendly, spirited staff and excellent coffee. It's a tad on the pricey side but it's worth it for the quality and the location. This is a solid place to enjoy a beer or a coffee and a pastry on the sidewalk, taking in the Las Olas street life. This was my favorite cafe on Las Olas for many years when they were located a block up the street, until their clueless Riverside Hotel landlords booted them out (along with the legendary O'Hara's jazz club) to make room for a hotel expansion that never came to fruition. Ft. Lauderdale's lucky to have Caffe Europa back in this new location. Give them a try! You won't be disappointed.

They have a decent beer selection and a really friendly staff, and for me the highlight of the place was the self-serve beer taps available at some of the booths. Unfortunately the place was packed to the gills inside, extremely loud, covered with big-screen TVs and loaded with hooting, moderately obnoxious kids (but not way-over-the-top frat boys like Himmarshee Village or the ambulance-chaser lawyers you see at YOLO... These were second-tier douches in training, bearable from a distance in small doses). So we sat outside where it was more relaxed and not super-loud, but unfortunately there are no self-serve taps outside. I'm DEFINITELY going to return on a weekday afternoon just to check out the tech behind those self-serve taps - it's a beer version of the concept that Vino Venue pulled off with wine in San Francisco. It looks like you can choose from among 4 different beers at your table, and then pour a little to taste or a lot to drink whenever you want, and a digital display right there shows how much has been dispensed and how much you owe. Like a gas station for alcoholics... It's a wonderful gimmick. I'm extremely curious about how many beers you can choose from, and if it's more than 4, how do they clear out the lines when patrons change their choices? Basic but tasty pub grub. Tuna salad sandwich was delicious. Chicken philly cheesesteak (with honey-mustard sauce - huh?) was very tasty even though I'm not usually a huge fan of sweet sauces. Worth a visit, but I recommend a weeknight or an afternoon. And if you want to have much of a conversation with your dinner/drinking mate, it's probably not the place for that.
