For those of that know me, you know that I used to active participant of the online photography world, that changed when I was awarded my dream job.  I still take pictures, but I have yet to process them and share my stories.  This includes recent trips, backpacking around Scotland, diving Indonesia, trekking throughout national parks of the southwest, among others. A few exceptions can be seen online for work!

I am a scientist with the Ocean Program of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), specifically a member of the Research and Development team.  I am truly lucky to have fallen into this position.  As I was defending my dissertation in December of 2011, I was awarded a prestigious California SeaGrant Fellowship, I soon realized that my heart wanted me to go another direction. I happened on a position with EDF.

With the Research and Development team, I get to maintain my interest in ecology, but I also get to be applied.  What  a great fit that has me working and traveling around the, from countries such, Belize, Cuba, Mexico, Indonesia and the Philippines.  In the future, I am going to attempt to blog about the exciting and innovative work that I am part of with the Oceans Program.

Here is a link to some of my work in Cuba, truly a fascinating place:

I got lucky last night. Well let me explain. I work in SF on Mondays and Wednesday, and yesterday I was fortunate to end my day with a photo adventure. After work I didn't take my usual journey from the financial district to CalTrain, followed by a drive over Hwy 17. Instead I met +Jim Patterson over at Battery Hill so we could meet up with some fellow G+er's on Marshall's Beach.
Not only did I get to play in the water and take photos, I got to hang out with +Ivan Makarov , +Steve-Maxx landeros , +Joe Azure as well as meet +Nathan Wirth and +Grant Murray.

Anyhow the conditions were not ideal, but I still had fun.

I know it has been awhile since I have been active, but being a post-doc & saving the world (really I am, one fishery at a time) is very time consuming.

Anyhow, check out f stop's new letter, featuring none other than +Jim Patterson.
Issue E09.2012 of the Nature & Landscape Photo Newsletter is here. This issue features some great work by +Jim Patterson.

+Colby Brown 's fine circle of photographers, check it out.
COLBY'S PHOTOGRAPHIC CIRCLE OF INSPIRATION

I have finally put together my 1st circle of photographers that I personally find inspiring. Nearly every genre of photography is represented here. These are individuals that are constantly providing photography work that speaks to me. They are hand picked and all active on G+. It includes full time professionals and amatures alike...all that create compelling photography. Everyone in this circle has less then 30k followers (although a few are very very close) and many have just a few hundred. Please enjoy...I know I have!

If you like what you find in this circle, please share it with your followers to help these individuals reach a wider audience. I will share more circles of those I find Inspiring in the future.

A quick and dirty work up of a few images from +Jim Patterson 's and my holiday road trip. We started in the Eastern Sierras, playing from Bodi down into Convict Lake. Then, since Tioga pass is open, we decided to play around Tioga pass.
