I got lucky last night. Well let me explain. I work in SF on Mondays and Wednesday, and yesterday I was fortunate to end my day with a photo adventure. After work I didn't take my usual journey from the financial district to CalTrain, followed by a drive over Hwy 17. Instead I met +Jim Patterson over at Battery Hill so we could meet up with some fellow G+er's on Marshall's Beach.
Not only did I get to play in the water and take photos, I got to hang out with +Ivan Makarov , +Steve-Maxx landeros , +Joe Azure as well as meet +Nathan Wirth and +Grant Murray.

Anyhow the conditions were not ideal, but I still had fun.

+Colby Brown 's fine circle of photographers, check it out.
Colby Brown originally shared:

COLBY'S PHOTOGRAPHIC CIRCLE OF INSPIRATION

I have finally put together my 1st circle of photographers that I personally find inspiring. Nearly every genre of photography is represented here. These are individuals that are constantly providing photography work that speaks to me. They are hand picked and all active on G+. It includes full time professionals and amatures alike...all that create compelling photography. Everyone in this circle has less then 30k followers (although a few are very very close) and many have just a few hundred. Please enjoy...I know I have!

If you like what you find in this circle, please share it with your followers to help these individuals reach a wider audience. I will share more circles of those I find Inspiring in the future.

A quick and dirty work up of a few images from +Jim Patterson 's and my holiday road trip. We started in the Eastern Sierras, playing from Bodi down into Convict Lake. Then, since Tioga pass is open, we decided to play around Tioga pass.

I am sitting here dreaming of a better, non stressful time where I am not hanging out in LA. I am currently taking care of my mother in a hotel near UCLA medical center. She just got of the hospital on 8/31 after her bone marrow transplant 22 days ago. We have a special bone marrow transplant hotel room, so I can keep her happy and healthy.

I am dreaming of hiking, not the hotel room that I am stuck in. I am dreaming of blue skies and wispy clouds.... oh well. All in the name of healthy family.

For those of that know me, you know that I used to active participant of the online photography world, that changed when I was awarded my dream job.  I still take pictures, but I have yet to process them and share my stories.  This includes recent trips, backpacking around Scotland, diving Indonesia, trekking throughout national parks of the southwest, among others. A few exceptions can be seen online for work!

I am a scientist with the Ocean Program of the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), specifically a member of the Research and Development team.  I am truly lucky to have fallen into this position.  As I was defending my dissertation in December of 2011, I was awarded a prestigious California SeaGrant Fellowship, I soon realized that my heart wanted me to go another direction. I happened on a position with EDF.

With the Research and Development team, I get to maintain my interest in ecology, but I also get to be applied.  What  a great fit that has me working and traveling around the, from countries such, Belize, Cuba, Mexico, Indonesia and the Philippines.  In the future, I am going to attempt to blog about the exciting and innovative work that I am part of with the Oceans Program.

Here is a link to some of my work in Cuba, truly a fascinating place:
http://www.edf.org/sites/default/files/content/waitt_cuba-research-cruise_oct2013_08_screen.pdf
A team of scientists from Cuba and EDF set sail on an expedition to assess the status and health of marine ecosystems of the Gulf of Ana Maria and the Gardens of the Queen marine reserve in southern Cuba, one of the most pristine and intact coral reef ecosystems in the Caribbean.

I know it has been awhile since I have been active, but being a post-doc & saving the world (really I am, one fishery at a time) is very time consuming.

Anyhow, check out f stop's new letter, featuring none other than +Jim Patterson.

Issue E09.2012 of the Nature & Landscape Photo Newsletter is here. This issue features some great work by +Jim Patterson.

Want to be a responsible adult, here is your chance.
Please Read and Sign the Petition!
Time is running out!Shark populations continue to be decimated simply to make soup. There is currently a petition which needs almost 900 more signatures by October 22, 2011 in order for the US Government to consider taking action. If you are a US citizen, please read. If you do not live in the US, still consider sharing to bring attention to this cause. If the 5,000 signatures are not reached, then this petition will need 25,000 signatures to be considered! Please, please, please sign this petition. Creating an account is easy and took me about 2-3 minutes (most of that was waiting for the confirmation email).A quick how-to video on account creation:

And then go sign the petition here: wh.gov/gWs

+Steven Davis It took me all of 3-4 minutes to make an account. Most of that time was waiting for the confirmation email to arrive. I can think of a lot worse ways to spend 3-4 minutes. :)

I am Miss August. No seriously, if you received the 2011 Ocean Conservancy calendar you will notice that this images graces the spread for August.

As well, this was a winner in the 2010 ICP awards put on by Art Wolf. Thanks for reading.
