Sage words from Walter Dorwin Teague in 1936 — full of optimism for a burgeoning new society where design really mattered. Much of what he says parallels our current times — technology getting ahead of our ability to know what to do with it, leading to clunky design that obfuscates rather than clarifies; bells and whistles over usability.

Interesting and sickening, at the same time. But what if the shipping crate concept also meant converting them into living spaces? Would that also make those sections of the wall self-policing? Or, perhaps more likely, would it create a new underground (overground?) railroad? Perhaps there could be shops, art galleries, Auntie Anne’s Pretzels and Cinnabons… the new great “wall-mall” of America.
