Harry Potter's Cottage Pie
To begin, let me point out that 'The Today Show' needs some serious help with recipes, if this is representative of their usual work. Not only was it apparent that they did some downsized quantity conversions, but they also missed a substantial number of th...

Of course, to the 14th century person, they looked perfectly lovely.

All the Sartorial THINGS!
I made a decision a couple of weeks ago, that I would get really serious about some quality "play" clothing. There are a couple of reasons, not the least of which is a sense of professionalism about my "other job" as creatrix - which includes the whole conc...

ADHD and Me (and Us)
Thinking a lot about things today. I'm making connections between the way my thought/organizational processes work, and situations that I've encountered both in the past and presently. As I examine my reactions to situations and others' reactions to what ar...

G+ hurts my brain.

I needed a new e-mail address to create a new PayPal account for DVSS. Of course, with a new e-mail account, comes a new G+ account, and it didn't like me using DVSS as the "name" on the profile. So I used my name, and (per direction) created a DVSS G+ page.

And I thought, well - if there's a page, might as well make invites to DVSS events on Google... but spreading the word seems to take more steps than I'm understanding.

Somewhere in the above paragraphs, the brain cramps started.

So, in short - if you want to be follow the DVSS G+ page, let me know and I'll add you. It's not likely to have any different info than the FB page, but maybe if you're not on FB...?

Switch!
In anticipation of Crossroads in Time (may the fates be beneficent), I've switched the workshop from Steampunk to 1340. I'm currently working on a second-quarter fourteenth century wardrobe based on the Luttrell Psalter and Romance of Alexander . This twent...

Muckin' Big firings!
Twice a year, we get to use the BIG kilns - the outdoor wood-firing and the salt-fired kiln. Both firing types were common in Medieval Europe, so naturally I've been spending all semester getting ready. The interior of the salt kiln. No, the bricks aren't g...

Tuesday night was very productive.  I recycled some white stoneware from the studio recycling bin. I wedged it into 4 pound balls and let it sit for a week. It was a little soft, and I couldn't get more than a 2-lb ball to throw from it. However, I have abo...

I have a friend with whom I made some really important project plans. He's put this off for several weeks now, and I have to remember that he's also ADHD - because my gut reaction is to question how important this really is to him.

I've lost track of how many items I have in process now. I've been focusing on three main areas - raku, wood/salt firing, and just getting some basic white stoneware 14th century pieces done. Sent 5 of the latter to the glaze firing last night; things are p...

Introduction
People with passions aren't bored.

Instead, I make and do, create, imagine, research, write, dig in the garden, enjoy trees and birds and rocks, swoon over great food, immerse in music, and geek over some medieval artist's tiny dress details. I value intellectualism and education, progressive thought, and would have an emotional crisis if I had to decide which books to leave behind to a wildfire.

I believe deeply in soul mates, the spirituality of creativity, and the butterfly effect. I am enchanted by eastern cultures (Japanese and Indian), and what they have to teach us. I am fascinated by the lives of Medieval women. Anything worth doing is worth overdoing, dreams are the seedlings of reality, and Omigawd, there might not be enough food!

I like to surround myself with people that I find fascinating, talented, smart, loving, compassionate, creative, passionate, sensitive, thoughtful, who have big plans and goals, and strive to make "the best" the only thing that's good enough.
