Hardwood Floor Care and Maintenance Tips
• Use door mats outside and inside all entries to prevent scratching of the wood floors and to prevent the dirt, debris, and other grit off the flooring.
• Vacuum or dust mop wood floor regularly.
• Wipe any food or spills right away with a damp, but not wet, towel or cloth.
• Do not wet-mop a wood floor. Standing water and moisture will damage the wood and the finish can get dull, or discolored.
• Place area rugs on wooden kitchen floors front of the sink.
• Apply felt glides under the legs of all furniture, especially chairs, to prevent scratches. Remember to check and replace them regularly. Debris can set in the pads and work like sanding paper.
• We recommend picking up rather than sliding furniture to prevent scratches. Slide a piece of cloth or blanket under the legs to move the heavy pieces.
• Use a humidifier during winter and or dehumidifier during summer to reduce gaps or cracks between the floor boards.
• Do not walk with sport shoes or cleats on wood floors. Keep high heels in good repairs. An uncovered or damaged heel nail will dent any hardwood floor.
• Finally, urethane finishes eventually will show wear patterns from surface scratching. When high traffic areas begin to look dull it is time to recoat or restore the finish. Call us for the evaluation of the condition of your wood floors.
• Remember to use only the recommended flooring cleaners and always follow the manufacturer’s cleaning suggestions.

The Evolution of Popular Wood Flooring Styles & Types
During the early 14th century, homeowners used rubber and cloth as floor coverings. Then during the Middle Ages wood became the floor covering of choice in aristocratic homes, effectively catapulting timber onto the global stage as the flooring material of choice—even to this day.
The most popular floor styles today were derived from various cultures and eras. Before choosing which surface best embodies your customers’ style, learn a bit about each type with regard to its origins.
