Cat behavior refers to the behaviors and habits of domestic cats, including body language, elimination habits, aggression, play and communication. Cat behavior varies among breeds and individuals, and between colonies. Many common behaviors include hunting, grooming, urine marking, face rubbing. Communication can vary greatly among individuals. Some cats seem to interact with others more easily, while others do not seem to do as well. In a family with many cats, the interactions seem to change depending on which individuals are present and how restricted the territory and resources are. A cat's eating patterns in domestic settings (homes) can be unsettling for owners. Some cats have been shown to "ask for" food dozens of times a day. Being nocturnal, they are often active and hungry at night. In the case of a household or colony having several cats, one or more individuals may become aggressive. Fighting may occur with scratches and deep bite wounds resulting. These fight wounds can abscess, often requiring veterinary attention. They are associated with the transmission of both the FIV and FELV viruses.
