"Teenage personality disorders still contain many mysteries we’ve yet to discover and solve. While we can now treat them effectively, methods for identification and treatment can always be improved. A recent discovery has found that the actual shape of a person’s brain can tell us whether they’ll be prone to certain traits–or possibly mental illnesses."

"Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a terribly misunderstood disorder by the public. There’s a common misconception that if you like to plan meticulously, organize your things, and keep things clean, that you probably have a little OCD–but this downplays what people actually receiving treatment for OCD go through. It makes it seem much more easygoing than it actually is for these individuals, when in actuality OCD is a serious mental health issue.

Because OCD often develops in adolescence or early adulthood, it’s incredibly important that parents keep watch and understand what OCD really means."

"Stress and trauma are deeply linked. Traumatic events are traumatic because of the extreme stress they cause in the moment and afterwards–days, weeks, even years later. In trauma treatment, we come across many different cases with many different origins for trauma. One possible cause of trauma is becoming more relevant, though.

In today’s world, our children are hooked into multiple forms of media. They watch television, they surf the web, they use social media–there’s so many platforms it’s hard to count them all. While this has tremendous benefits possible, there’s also downsides like with anything else. One downside is the exposure to violence."

"Teenagers are notoriously moody—every parent knows this. Sometimes it’s more than just moodiness and hormones, though. Sometimes it’s depression. Depression treatment is among one of the most needed mental health services among the adolescent age group. It can be caused by a host of issues and it can be incredibly difficult to identify in your child."

"Teen body image is an enormous part of the adolescent years. The state of someone’s body image during these critical years can shape not just their physical health, but their mental health for the rest of their life. Many studies now link various forms of media to teen body image issues, but recent research unveiled a connection not many would’ve considered: alcohol use and body image."

The ViewPoint Center would like to extend a thank you to all the professionals who have partnered with them in helping create change for patients and their families. Without the support from all of you, The ViewPoint Center would not have had the opportunity to help over 100 patients this past year. Here is what a former patient’s parents had to say about their success at ViewPoint Center:

“Thank you for rescuing our son & our family during such a chaotic time! We have benefited greatly from this experience; our son especially has benefited. We will always remember & appreciate the care you have shown to us and our son. Wishing you all the best!”

"We all experience stress—it can be brought on by missing a deadline, arguing with your friends, making a bad grade, or even sleeping through your alarm. Some stressors leave a deeper impact, though, leading to very real complications. As a mental health hospital for troubled teens, we often help adolescents who have experienced a large amount of stress in their lives. Sometimes it’s due to issues in school, sometimes it’s due to having an inaccurate diagnosis—but the stress is very real and very damaging."
