This review is for the Lorien Spa only. As a treat to ourselves, my boyfriend and I decided to get facials and massages this weekend. Since we live in Old Town, we walked over to the spa and booked an appointment with the staff onsite. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. We asked to see the shower rooms prior to making an appointment, which they allowed. They also took the time to explain the packages. We were hoping for a couples' massage but ultimately decided to get separate packages since a couples' massage for 50 minutes is $310. I chose the Sweet Dreams package, which includes a massage, facial, and scalp massage (115 minutes for $250). My boyfriend opted for the Gentlemen's Dream package, which includes a deep therapeutic massage and a facial (100 minutes for $220). Even though we couldn't be in the same room together for the massage, the staff made a note to have both our facials start at the same time and assured us that we would have time together in the relaxation room. Come Sunday, we headed back to Lorien. One of the ladies handed us keys to our lockers and a binder with a small pamphlet to fill out. She led me to the ladies' shower room and explained everything in there. My locker contained a robe, flip flops, and an extra large fluffy towel. The shower room has a vanity with seats where you can blow-dry and style your hair. There are large containers on an adjacent bookshelf that have makeup remover wipes, combs, and exfoliating pads. There's a steam room and a large sink with cleanser, body lotion, mouthwash, and facial mist. Across from the shower room is the relaxation room. There's a table with teas and cucumber water. Seats 8 with chairs and benches backed with huge pillows and surrounded with candles, diffuser scented sticks, and orchids. There are magazines for pleasure reading as well. We waited in the relaxation room before our facial specialists. Ludmila did my facial and she was very gentle. She cleansed, exfoliated, and steamed my face first before doing the extractions. I've never had a professional do extractions on my face before, so there was certainly more pressure and pain but that's to be expected. Ludmila advised me to use certain products for my acne-prone skin and said she will bring some recommended Kerstin Florian products to the front desk. Afterwards, she did a natural enzyme peel, a deep cleansing facial massage, hand and arm massage, and a scalp massage with lavender oils. The facial was wonderful and my skin felt so smooth and clean afterwards. Jason did my massage. He was very gentle and targeted my problem areas (neck, shoulders). All in all, it was a very, very relaxing afternoon. I thoroughly enjoyed both my facial and massage. It's a bit on the pricey end, with both our packages and tip coming out to be over $600. The specialists are all fantastic and staff are wonderful. Great little pick-me-up!

Stayed at the Lorien for a business meeting for the Lancaster Chamber. Things I enjoyed. Very clean, super nice staff, free wifi, Dunkin Donuts around the corner, and everything is walking distance or take the free trolly that runs you to the other end of town. My recommendations. Have your vehicle valeted, these guys are the best. I forgot my phone charger in the car, front desk called the valet and they went to retrieve it for me, no questions asked. They asked me what I was looking to do during my down time, when I told them antiques, they googled all the local shops walking distance from the hotel. They went above and beyond their job description. I would stay here again.

The hotel staff was professional and very accommodating. The room was beautiful and comfortable. All around the stay was relaxing. Wish I would have had more time to enjoy the spa. Would definitely recommend and revisit

My wife and stayed at the Lorien on 9/27/14 for a quick date night get away in Alexandria. The hotel was clean and staff was efficient and helpful. I am still not quite convinced it was worth the price, but I can't complain too much.

Certainly clean. Certainly high class look on the surface. Only problems were a barely functioning TV controller (minor) and the water piping could be heard going through the walls; like when someone was taking a shower or flushing the toilet upstairs. Wine reception is strictly 5-6 and underwhelming in atmosphere. Will try other area hotels, but not bad. (Stayed twice, similar experience)

This is unlike any other Kimpton I have stayed in so far. I booked a week at the Lorien for work, as a more affordable option from staying in the city, and a respite from my week in Capitol Hill. Despite the crazy fun wedding taking place upon my arrival, my room was a quiet calm space. I enjoyed great wine, beer and delicious "tarts" (pizza) at the Brabo Tasting Room, and expensive but delicious steak and desserts at the Brabo restaurant. The staff is what I expect from a Kimpton - friendly, liberal, fast at taking action, and they remember you. I felt loved at the Lorien, even if I was having some key problems (security systems at the Feds hates hotel keys) and had one hiccup with the restaurant upon my arrival (the tasting room became the place the restaurant staff went to watch a baseball game, and they closed earlier then the sign says, I complained to the staff, and the manager called, reimbursed my meal (!!!! total surprise) and things were great after that!) Anyway, my room was far away from the elevator and in a quiet part of the hotel (actually on the street). Rooms are a nice size (standard American hotel room size) and I did sneak a peek of a suite when passing by one being cleaned and it was quite calm and nice. There is a nice courtyard in the hotel and outside the hotel, but the weather was too cold. Wine happy hour comes with complimentary hor'dourves from Brabo! I also took advantage of the spa - it was wonderful. My first professional massage (!) and I was treated great. There were lots of regulars there, which says a lot about the services. The steam room was a nice treat. My only complaint: they don't do mani/pedi's. But that's OK, I felt stoned after my massage and could careless about my nails after that! Love the Lorien. Love Kimpton!
