Ascend a flight of stairs from a quaint Old Pasadena courtyard and you'll arrive at Vertical Wine Bistro, featuring a sleek wine bar and lounge separated from a contemporary dining room by a custom floor-to-ceiling glass wine cellar.

Owned by Film Producer and local resident Gale Anne Hurd, Vertical
offers more than 400 wines on its eclectic list - with 70 wines available
by the glass - and an array of intriguing flight options, intended to pair
with seasonal California fare.

Signature dishes include Mussels with chorizo and saffron, Ribeye with
Espelette Piment Fries and Corn Fritters with Smoked Salmon.

We are open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday with daily happy hours
that provide the perfect occasion for gathering with friends in our lounge.

Sleek wine bar with a glass-enclosed cellar, modern Mediterranean small plates & happy hours.- Google
"Eventually they agreed to extend happy hour to 7pm."
"$7 doesn't seem much like a happy hour price."

It was my first time going to Vertical Wine Bar. I met my date there and I didn't know what to expect but Pasadena is a beautiful city. I didn't realized the restaurant was upstairs until I saw the string of light bulbs hanging along the walls as I walked up the stairs. It was also raining that night and I didn't have my umbrella so I casually walked in and I really love the ambience. It was like a scene in a movie where you looked at a crowd of people enjoying their wine or cocktails with their coworkers or friends after work in the bar area and around the sofas. My date had just arrived and we sat at the bar area after walking around the restaurant to look for seat. We ordered wine for our drinks. I had the 2010 Chateau Mezain Bordeaux Blend which was pretty good. My date had the Malbec. They had a great selection of wine to choose from. For appetizers, we had Calamari and a Margarita Pizza. The Calamari was pretty good with tomato sauce. The Margarita Pizza had olives in it and my date did not like olives. Poor thing had to dig out all the olives. My date noticed that the appetizers menu changed since he's been there. Service was pretty good, the waiter would check on us for drink refills or food orders. It was a bit dark in the restaurant but it's a great place to meet a group of people or coworkers after work. The atmosphere definitely set a nice chilled atmosphere to get to know someone new. Parking is near by at the parking structure. The decor of the restaurant is really nice and spacious with fine dining, sofas, or bar area. After our drinks, we left Vertical Wine Bar to meet my friends at Gyu-Kaku and walked in the rain with one umbrella.

Beautiful lounge to go on a date night or even hang out with friends to grab a bite and drink. The entrance with the dimly lit stairs and zigzag lights make the setting romantic. Came here on a Saturday night, great mix of age groups and not too crowded. Very relaxed. Came here with a group of friends. Drinks were decently priced and good service. Will have to come here again..

The ambiance of this restaurant is amazing. It is the perfect lounge, relaxed atmosphere. The happy hour drinks are a little pricy. $7 doesn't seem much like a happy hour price. However, the happy hour does start at 4pm which is great if you really need a splash of something after a long work day. My absolute favorite? The Blueberry Collins (ask for premium Vodka ). Shishito Peppers with ponzu, and Truffle Mac and Cheese.

Great place, beautiful look and feel. Very elegant. One problem is they advertise a 4-7pm happy hour and then when you show up they say that happy hour is now 4-6pm. That's a bait and switch and very unprofessional. They weren't going to honor the happy hour past 6pm but I explained that they had no choice because it's illegal to advertise one thing and then not offer what's been advertised. Eventually they agreed to extend happy hour to 7pm. If they want to make a change in the happy hour time then they need to update everything to reflect that change.

Ive been to Vertical wine bistro a couple of times and had a pretty positive experience! The host that walked me to my seat were courtesy and even offered me some delicious suggestions on drinks and brought it out to me later! The waiter though took about 15 minutes before i was able to flag him down..actually someone else took my appetizer and he was a bit rude with his response but Ill let it go. My favorite of the night were the burrata with mango - it was SOOO refreshing with the sweet and sour after taste from the mango really brought out the flavors! The miss were: - the grilled cheese and tomato soup, both were incredibly heavy and oily! - my dessert, a MAJOR miss i ordered the ice cream caramel sea salt sandwich and it was NASTY i barely touched it. My friend even asked if i rather order something else..i just said nahh and moved on!

Happy hour is the best deal in town. I just discovered the delicious sliders (three different kinds) for only $5 and $5 for wine and cocktails. Yeah.
