Too many people try to overcomplicate SEO. At its core, is creating useful well functioning web pages. Focus on that before trying to second guess what the Google Bot is seeking.

On a roll! A further two sites converted over to use HTTPS and gain the green 'Secure' padlock icon.

In July, Chrome will be flagging all sites that do not use HTTPS as NOT SECURE, if your site is still on HTTP and you need to switch, get in touch - we can advise on getting you switched over.

Use Google Chrome as your browser? You need to read this, NOW.

Scammers are targetting users of Chrome with a sophisticated malware attack that causes this browser to hang up and presents the user with a believable and fake "Tech Support" message aimed at getting you to give away your credit card details.

If you use Chrome, please read and share this article with anyone else to help keep them safe.

At QD Design we pride ourselves on making fast websites. No one wants to wait while a site takes ages to load and we make it a priority to eliminate as many factors that get in the way of a site loading quickly.

Very pleased to see that even before our post go-live optimisation of the recently released https://www.it-deliveries.co.uk site, that in the superb Pingdom Page Speed Checker, it is already A rated and is in the top 9% of all websites globally.

How did we achieve this? Quite simply by removing any unnecessary code, deferring the loading of javascript files, avoiding cumbersome plug-ins or add-ons and taking advantage of browser caching.

All part of the service! And, if you want to see from the experts why page speed really matters, check out this article from Pingdom themselves -- http://royal.pingdom.com/2018/01/18/page-load-time-really-affect-bounce-rate/

Testing, testing, testing...

Compatibility tests being run in different browsers to check that a site going live later this week, 'plays nicely' in every browser and at different screen sizes.

It does (as I knew it would)! Also tested in Internet Explorer and Chrome for Android. Safari and iOS still to perform.

How thorough is your web developer when it comes to testing?

The Curious Case of the Missing Mouse

A conflict between Windows and my Wacom tablet software was rendering the usually excellent Pen Touch device all but useless. The mouse cursor would vanish, right click would not work and it would be impossible to click buttons or select files in most programs.

Here's how to fix it.

Wow, nothing like hitting the ground running after the holidays. Straight back into bespoke web development with a vengeance today.

Really productive day creating a custom form (front end) and mail handler (back end) for a delivery firm to gather necessary information to produce a quote for their customers.

We have recently updated our site and hosting to take advantage of the now freely available Let's Encrypt SSL certificate meaning that the QD Design site shows as https rather than http.

That extra s may not sound like much but it means that any traffic between our hosting server and a visitor is securely encrypted and hidden from prying eyes.

Google has for some time been giving a small rankings bonus in the natural search results for sites that were https and used a SSL certificate correctly. In future, sites that don't use a SSL certificate and are not following the https protocol will be labelled as insecure.

This is likely to be alarming to your site visitors and may even cause them to switch away from your site to a competitors.

Upgrading to SSL and using https can often take as little as 15 minutes to implement. If you need advice, then get in touch.
