The Great British Hangout needs to hear from you...
For those of you who have been around in the Google+ #BritPack  for a year or so may be wondering what's happened to The Great British Hangout, a Google+ Hangout On Air show jointly hosted by +Kath Dawson and +Peter Lunn.

We ran a series of HOAs last year and much appreciated the support and participation of many people from UK Connect and other #BritPackers. Well we are still alive and kicking and looking forward to starting a new series of Hangouts soon, but before we do that, we wanted to ask your opinion.

We are planning to make the new series shorter and a more bite-size length of 30 minutes. We think that will help to make the show easier for people to take in and participate during the broadcast. But we are unsure about what the best time will be for more people to be likely to watch live, so we are asking you for feedback.

We are aiming for either a Monday or Tuesday, late afternoon or evening, so please let us have your feedback. If it's something you would watch then what time works best to make it more likely you could watch the live event?

There are five options below. Unfortunately, you can only opt for one, but please let us know in the comments your thoughts or if other times than those you have clicked would work best for you?

What will we covering? Well more of that soon, but meantime thanks for your feedback below.

Did you miss this? If so, you better go Back to the Future!
Last night The Great British Hangout hosted by +Kath Dawson and +Peter Lunn was joined by fellow #BritPack crew members +martin shervington, +Amy Harrison, +David Amerland and +James Dearsley for a rip-roaring information and fun-filled Hangout On Air. We looked back on 2014 and took a peak at where things might be heading in 2015. We talked Google+, Social, Search, Content Marketing all rounded up by a plutonium-fuelled look at tech by James. It's not to be missed. There was also quite a few laughs including some of the worst and a couple of the best Christmas jokes :D

If you missed it, or even if you were there, you can now zip Back to the Future and watch the replay and post your comments or questions in the stream below.
Next year it's 30 years since the release of the iconic Back to the Future when teenage Marty McFly bumped into eccentric scientist "Doc" Brown and flew back 30 years in Doc's DeLorian time machine to 1955.

On 10th December, armed with a flux capacitor that's gone on the blink and limited plutonium fuel, +Kath Dawson and +Peter Lunn will be flying their +The Great British Hangout On Air time machine and are delighted to be joined by an all #BritPack panel of guests with +James Dearsley, +martin shervington, +Amy Harrison and +David Amerland.

We will be looking back at what's been happening in digital marketing in 2014 but also taking a jaunt into 2015 to peek into the future to what we may expect to see next year, looking in particular at Google+, Search, Social, Content Marketing and AI/tech, but who knows how our time machine will malfunction and where it could take us.

Come and join us for what will be a fun informational hour mixed with some festive humour. Drop in your questions, thoughts, ideas and even a Christmas Cracker of a joke or two into the comment stream. And, if you have any plutonium reserves that will help too!

We're looking forward to seeing you :)

Was Our Last Post Really in July?

Goodness, you must be thinking we have dropped off the planet! Not so, myself (+Kath Dawson) and +Peter Lunn are very much alive and kicking around in Google Plus.

Our story, in case you are interested is that we both run our own agencies +Strategy Digital and +Cracking Media respectively and that means that our clients have to come first and our businesses a close second.

We 'launched' the Great British Hangout together because we wanted to do two things:
1. encourage British businesses onto Google Plus and into Hangouts
2. to learn stuff and meet new people

I think we can be confident in saying that we have achieved both and continue to do so in our own ways. We haven't done as many TGBH shows as we probably hoped but we also need to be kind to ourselves and accept that we are both only human.

We have lots of plans for TGBH and we will be back soon with another show, one that we think you will all find useful - that's what we try to aim for anyway!

So bear with us and remember that Hangouts are the ultimate secret weapon of Google Plus so here is one of my favourite case studies from some research I was conducting recently.

If you want more Hangout inspiration check out this playlisthttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLR5hpsA3y0phAftE_vy-o-jKkvqqae5Sk

Oh and if you get this far, stop by and say hi :)

How to Google your Business with Google My Business will be live in just over 3 hours. Looking forward to seeing you there...
Helping you to grow your business through Google My Business
Google has grown from being a research project by two Stanford University students into a global phenomenon. The noun has become a verb and Google has become synonymous with search used for over 90% of European Internet searches.

Google search has also become far more local and personalised and with their most recent revamp and introduction of “Google My Business”, Google has presented businesses with a greater opportunity to improve their marketing reach.

In our next episode of The Great British Hangout, we will be looking at Google My Business in more depth, understanding the changes and explaining how you can make it work better for your business.

We are delighted to be joined by +Nick Rink, owner of Local SEO specialists, Smart Local and by +Donna Beckett, personal injury lawyer and owner of Beckett & Co Solicitors.

Nick’s passion is for educating and helping small businesses succeed in local search. He will be helping to chart our path through Google My Business, whilst Donna, who admits to being a social media addict, will share her perspective as a business owner along with her expertise as a successful marketer and social evangelist for her business.

Are you making the most of “Google My Business” for your business? Are you overwhelmed by Analytics or unsure about Insights? What don't you understand and what could you be doing better?

We welcome your questions. Don't miss this opportunity. Please add your questions and thoughts in the comments below and share this event with your contacts and invite them to join us on Wednesday 23 July at 8pm UK (3pm Eastern, Midday Pacific).

Some top tips for navigating your way through the Google+ jungle
Some of the terrain in Google+ can be difficult sometimes to navigate through so here's some machete like tips to help you from our HOA last week.

Below is a link to the YouTube copy of the video along with time codes and a short explanation about what you can expect to find at that point in the video. If you don't have time to watch the full hour long replay, then these are shortcuts to watch just the bits that interest you the most.

Please post in the comments below if you have any questions.
Are you a little bit lost in the Google+ jungle?
OK. So you've signed up to Google+ and run excitedly in through the front gates and then... thought what do I do now?!   If you have, you are not alone, most of the residents on Google+ have experienced that "oh, heck" moment too.

So whether you've been here just a few days or a few months or even longer (we are all still learning) and you are still a little bit stuck, here's something that should help you. A few days ago The Great British Hangout (+Kath Dawson and +Peter Lunn) was joined on our Hangout On Air by +Ammon Johns and +Phil Aston for "I'm on Google+, help me reach out from here" to chat and answer questions on how we can make Google+ work better for our business or organisation or just us as individuals.

You can watch the full video of the Hangout On Air by hovering and clicking the title link below or, by hovering and clicking the time code links below that you can dip into the bits that interest you the most. NB. For some reason there seems to be a bug with clicking time code links in that the first time you click one the video plays from the start rather than from the time code. Click the time code again and it will go to the correct point as do all click after that

Please enjoy and if you have other questions, then just chip in a comment and someone will be sure to help.

A big thank you to UK Connect and those of you who were able to come along and support our HOA last nght.  From the comments going on it felt like everyone was enjoying themselves and the participation levels were much higher than we had perhaps expected. And we even managed to bring +Kath Dawson into a fit of giggles before the end.  So thank you!

Google+ is has been dubbed by tech journalists as a ghost town and as Google's failed experiment into social media. Perhaps we should all "get out of here!" before we are all shown to be fools along with the rest of the 300,000+ active users?

Yet the reality for those who have tasted what it's really like on the inside is that there's plenty going on and it's getting better all the time. But is there something we are missing?

Google+ is perhaps the best social networking platform there is (along with being so much more), but maybe those on the outside, don't know what they're are missing because we, on the inside, have not been very good at reaching out to them?

On this episode of The Great British Hangout we will be looking at what we all, as business users on Google+, could be doing about it and also how we can perhaps be better at reaching out to each other. We are delighted to welcome the UK's +Ammon Johns and +Phil Aston to help us cut a path through the "jungle" some think we should get out of and find a way to make Google+ work better for business.

Ammon Johns (Ammon Johns & Co) has been involved in marketing and SEO on the web since 1995 and is well respected for helping businesses to promote themselves better online. SEOMoz's (now Moz) founder, Rand Fishkin, quoted Ammon as "without question, one of the best SEOs in the world".  Ammon brings his insight and expertise on many HOAs and is a regular member of the popular weekly ISOOSI Research Engine HOA.

Phil Aston (Genius Loci) is a digital marketer specialising in the tourism and retail sector and has been instrumental in starting several Google+ Hangouts on Air including the very popular "Hands Across the Ocean" edition of his Genius Loci Business & Media Show and two that specifically reach out from Google+ and bring together businesses in Cornwall.

We are grateful to have Ammon and Phil join us for this HOA, but the most important guests are YOU and we would love you to participate in the comment stream by bringing your thoughts and questions. You don't have to wait until the live show. You can start by commenting below now. We will do our best during the show to follow up on and answer as many as possible - so don't be shy!
