MozCast's SERP volatility over the past few weeks showed Google #Penguin4 was likely in testing/progress. I always visit mozcast.com once or twice a week to get a sense of ranking shifts. 'Temps' have been around 80+ for 2 weeks on end. When we slide back into the 60's and 70's we'll know the Penguin rollout has finished most of it's recrawling process.

NLP - Natural Language Processing fascinates me: Typed, Written, Spoken, Spun, Scraped or Generated from 'Thin-Air' -- I look back historically on my 30+ years of computing and think of the first word-processors that got spelling and grammar checkers: Wow! OCR when I worked at a bank processing checks, and then flatbed scanners with OCR software turning pages into PDF's, The Apple Newton and it's atrocious handwriting recognition, Hollering through a headset at IBM's ViaVoice for Mac to 'Stop! No! Fix That!' frustrations of early speech recognition.

Now here we are on the forefront of unique content generation, article rewriting, etc. Spinners like WordAI and SpinRewriter are getting smart about word substitutions in context. (i.e. Whether a phrase contains a noun, adjective, adverb that can be swapped - appropriately.)

True article creation from seed keywords has a long way to go... But I think is a problem that WILL GET SOLVED by computers quite rapidly. To truly write computer generated content from scratch - and not just mish-mosh thematically related technically correct sentences together - is going to be a challenge.

A paragraph isn't just a collected jumble of readable sentences: It opens with a TOPIC SENTENCE and only sentences that support that should follow. An article or blog post has a PROGRESSION of introducing a topic, a deep dive with multiple paragraphs of thematic content, and then some kind of summary, call to action, conclusion or 'For further reading...' at the end. Will computer content generators EVER be able to replicate that?

I think so. But it's going to take some pretty sophisticated algos and some really smart programmers to achieve it. In the meantime it's fun to play around with online tools trying to lay the groundwork.

Mobile! Mobile! Mobile! - REALLY??? - These are MY stats about what kind of devices are accessing MY video content. Maybe if you're a restaurant, bar or hotel mobile devices are what a majority of people are using... But this push to 'mobile-ize' everything doesn't ring true to my target audience. I feel the IM community is lying to us.

Kind of MIFFED at GoDaddy - Got some renewals coming up and they are so STINGY with discounts and coupon codes these days -- You have to buy NEW domains or products to get any real deal at all - not helpful for renewals. Ugh.

Love seeing random video embeds snagging my vids and posting them around the 'net. Content 'scraping' is fine with me. Gets me exposure on places I otherwise wouldn't -- without lifting a finger!
