Today I released the first verison of "Spreadsheet Actions" – a small framework for Google spreadsheets, allowing you to execute actions for selected rows.

It has clear overlap with things like gClassFolders, Doctopus, mail mergers (and more), but is intended to be a framework for many small plugins – not a solution for a specific task.

Thanks to Bruce McPherson for the cParseCom library.

I finally got my head around how to use it – here's a short how-to for anyone else with the same needs: http://magisterfalk.wordpress.com/2014/09/13/how-to-get-started-with-cparsecom-and-google-apps-script/

I've run into problems with storing data in Google scripts a few times, in particular when scripts should be executed by the acting user.

Today I managed to use parse.com as data backend, which will help me a lot. It's free and when you know how to use it it's also easy. If anyone's interested, here's a short blog post on how to get started:

Interesting stuff!
Two questions:
1) Do you have the code on GitHub? If not, are you interested in putting it there?
2) How interested are you in working towards making this into a more generalized and pluggable script?

This definitely looks worth testing.
Introducing sheetSpider - looking for beta testers - filter and push form or sheet data out to multiple Google Spreadsheets based on a unique "entity" (e.g. student name, teacher name, etc) criterion.

This is a script concept inspired by genius-school-leader +Mark Dunetz +Mark Dunetz  and my favorite GTA comrades +Jay Atwood and +Dee Lanier -- it's a bit abstract but I think if you take the time to figure it out, it will serve many purposes for you!  Please help test and offer feedback.

Get your own copy here: https://docs.google.com/a/youpd.org/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjdG0Zk4rfrwdHFJbVlMVllMeDVkQkJWUEZybU1hUWc#gid=12

Features:

- Sets up and shares "entity" spreadsheets with individual collaborators. Entities can be anything -- student names, course, teachers, etc. -- as long as they have unique names.

- Allows you to specify the "feeder" sheet within the spreadsheet. This is the sheet where aggregate data lives -- either via Google Form or as a bulk data set.

- For Google Form mode, sheetSpider automatically populates one listbox, checkbox, or multiple choice question on your form with entity names. This entity name is used to determine which spreadsheet to send inbound data to.

- When multiple entity names are selected (i.e. via checkbox question type), data is sent to multiple spreadsheets.

- Assesses the uniqueness of each record (you can indicate multiple fields as uniqueness criteria) before pushing to the destination sheet.

- Can be run in manual mode -- i.e. batch disaggregate and push data to entity spreadsheets

- Allows a live "pull" of current data in all entity spreadsheets -- great for harvesting back changes in status, completed records, etc. from entities (students, teachers, etc.)

På fredag är jag med i en online-intervju! Vi kommer att prata om Google Drive för utbildning. Häng på om du vill!
There are probably many, many teachers in Sweden who dream of moving over to the business sector and finally getting a reasonable paycheck.  Well, +Johan Falk has done that - but the other way round! What the..?

I'd also think we'll be talking quite a bit about baking your own bread, drinking tea and coding Google Apps Script.

This will be a one-on-one with Johan but the viewers will be able to ask questions at the G+ Event, through the Q&Q App, in case everything works out the way I hope :) There are limits to my simultaneous capacity, however..
