What happens when you play one game of Civilization II for ten years? And what does this say about us?

Personally, I side with the author in my uncertainty of what (if anything) it says about the real world - I certainly hope it doesn't, but it is interesting to think about and it makes me really want to play Civilization.

Slides need to be be included in more urban architecture ...

Obviously I went to the wrong college
Technische Universitat in Munich, Germany  installed giant 4-story high slides inside one of its buildings.   All we got when I was in college was the one day a year the University rented bouncy houses.  This would have been a lot more fun.

Sister Farley's views are far from radical. The perspective espoused by her and many other American nuns is promising of real critical internal evaluation within the structure of this faith. The Vatican should welcome such discussion. Their views are far out of touch with their congregation as is reflected in their recent "crackdown" on so-called "radically feminist" nuns. Nonetheless, the upheaval sheds some light, perhaps, on the hope for a transition towards a more democratic institution with a doctrine determined by its constituents rather than an exclusive category of supremely ordained figureheads. The Papacy's excessive discomfort with this (still slight) possibility would be funny if its consequences weren't so disturbing and ultimately damning.

This is what it looked like when all of San Diego's "Big Bay Boom" fireworks went off simultaneously by accident last night. Oops ...

This is amazing! Women who see base 4 colors ... one hundred million colors instead of one million as a genetically normal human would.
iStockphoto. An average human, utterly unremarkable in every way, can perceive a million different colors. Vermilion, puce, cerulean, periwinkle, chartreuse—we have thousands of words for them, but me...

Sci-fi genius Ray Bradbury got his education at the library. Thanks to budget cuts, too many modern students can't say the same.
