[LONG POST WARNING]
To Star Trek the original series fans:

I never was interested in the Star Trek fan remakes, even the ones with some of the original cast in it. Most of the ones I have watched just seemed laughable and, well, was no better than I could do (which isn't saying much). But, I came across one Star Trek TOS that seems to have been very well done. It is "Star Trek Continues". While it is technically fan-made, it really doesn't look like it. They set it in the same ST TOS universe and time period as the original. The special effects are good and the sets look just like the original. The music is taken from the original ST TOS and they really try to strive to be faithful to the original.

Having said that, the one thing you have to get used to is the actors. They are playing the same characters, Kirk, Spock, Scotty, McCoy, etc., but of course they are much different people. It takes a bit of getting used to... and I admit when I watched the first episode I would point and laugh. But, as I watched other episodes, they grew on me and the less I minded the differences. The actors are very good. I think most of them have studied acting and filmmaking. There are exceptions, such as a new character which is the ship's counsellor (she gets better in the last episode but I still don't like her or her looks), Uhura's first episode (but she gets it right in the third) and Dr. McCoy in the first (and possibly second) episode but they replaced him in the third with an actor that looks much more like him. Chekov is kinda hit and miss but gets better in the third. Sulu does a pretty good job but needs to work on Sulu's voice mannerisms a bit more. And lastly, Scotty. He is played by James Doohan's son. He is taller and looks a bit different, but he does the accent pretty well and just needs to work on the mannerisms a bit.

Now, what really sold me on the show is the writing and the episode content. It is really top-notch in my book, especially since it is done by non-professionals. I won't go into details on the first two, but the third episode is a sequel to the ST TOS original episode #33, "Mirror, Mirror". It is the "evil" universe episode where Spock has a beard. The third episode starts at the end of the original episode and goes on to show what happens after the "evil Kirk and crew" get back. I thought it was a great episode.

It's been a long post, but the bottom like is watch it. Watch the first episode and get the pointing and laughing out of the way. Then, I would jump to the third episode and you will be glad you did. I'm actually anxious for the fourth one to come out.

I need help finding something. My "older" friends can probably help.

Do you remember the old TV "We are having technical difficulties - please stand by" test patterns? I am looking for a picture of a specific one where there is a mouse holding the power plug.

So far my "Google-Fu" has not been able to turn it up. Anyone know where to find it?

I finished up my last day of work yesterday. While sad to say goodbye to good friends, I am excited about starting a new chapter of my life. When I worked in IT many years ago and I really enjoyed it. For me, there is a great satisfaction in solving problems and making customers happy. I am SO looking forward to the greater challenges ahead!

I hate Google animations when I post a video! If it played once and stopped or played when your mouse hovered over it there wouldn't be a problem but it just plays continuously. You can't disable it as far as I know so I don't upload videos. to Google+. Google, you need to fix this. Until then, it's off to Facebook to post videos. Grrr...

This is a Kickstarter project I like. Not sure why but I think the illustrations are cool. They are about 70% to their goal.

Greetings all!

I am in a big crunch (like yesterday) to finish some computer certifications.

These are:
The CompTIA A+ (Exams 220-801 & 220-802)
The CompTIA Security+ (Exam SY0-301)
 CISCO CCNA certification (Exams ICND1 & ICND2)

I have some training materials for each, but REALLY need to find as many practice tests as possible, preferably computer based exams. I am looking for practice tests that go with the exact exams so older versions will not help me much.

I don't have a lot of money to spend so cheaper alternatives (i.e., free or hand-me-downs) are greatly appreciated!

Had a great weekend! We moved furniture around, cleaned out some junk, organized, and finally got Gina's 32" TV hung on the wall in our bedroom. I guess it don't seem like fun, but it really was a good feeling to get that stuff done. :-)
