PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Dr Jim Sarji of Advanced Gentle Dentistry in Park Slope says that patients should never put of dental cleanings and regular dental visits even if they find themselves without insurance.

Speaking from his high-tech dental office in Park Slope Brooklyn he says that when he sees dental emergencies it is often a result of having ignored an existing dental issue and that there most of these situations could have been avoided.

" The worst thing that a patient can do in terms of their health or saving money is to delay dental work that needs done. A pre-existing dental condition that could lead to decay will do nothing but create problems for you down the line and nine times out of 10 will end up costing you more money."

Dr Sarji says he sees a lot patients who have had a crowns or fillings that fell out, or a failed root canal that they don't even know about. These can lie dormant and will pop up when you least expect them. With regular check ups and x-rays we can find these problems beforehand. This will inevitably save patients money down the line."

He says often he sees a patient who had a filling fall out that could have been easily repaired. Months later he is dealing with decayed or broken tooth structure or a root canal that sometimes one the root canal treatment is performed is not even enough tooth structure to replace with another crown once the decay has been removed.

"Sometimes we are left with so little structure to work with that we have to use a post so that we can stabilize the crown. Other times there is nothing that we can do except extract the tooth. This will require an implant. If they patient does not want an implant or can't afford one then they are left with a gap or the possibility of placing a bridge. That means we have to shave down two other perfectly good teeth. 9 times out of 10 the patients could have avoided all of this by coming to the dentist as soon as the filling or crown fell out."

The ADA has announced that it recommends that patients have two professional cleanings each year. X-rays and thorough examinations by a dentist are important also.

Advanced Gentle Dentistry of Park Slope offers Care Credit for patients that cannot afford more expensive treatments but they we can also stage the work and patients can pay each time they come, they pay off a certain amount. Our goal is to keep patients happy and healthy and avoid extensive work due to the fact that they put of dental work.

Dr Sarji has a list of the insurances he accepts on his website at www.dentistparkslope.com but prefers that you call his office on 718-788-8009 and check with the receptionist to see if you we take your insurance. He also is happy to provide a Saturday service for those patients that cannot make it during the week and he is open from 9am - 4pm on Saturday. Dr Jim Sarji was educated at NYU and has Diplomates in Implantology. He was also awarded the Patient Choice award for 2012. He lives in Brooklyn with his family.

A common procedure we perform at the office - a root canal on a tooth with an existing crown.
