#DBRconservation are working at Holy Trinity Brompton to conserve external #stone carvings ....
#DBRConservation are working on the external #stone carvings @HTBChurch, which includes a #conservation programme of dry cleaning, and consolidation with nanolime and injection mortars.
The final treatment includes shelter coating, which is composed of #lime putty and a variety of sieved stone dusts to match the various colours of the original stone.

Well done to Donald Insall Associates
DIA Associate Dorian Proudfoot spoke at the RIBA conservation course delegates at Chester Cathedral about our much praised ‘Cathedral at Height’ project at Chester Cathedral which completed during Easter 2014. Approximately 30 people attended, all construction industry professionals, mainly architects but also engineers, CDM advisors, other consultants, etc.

“We are currently installing new #stone @MerchantTaylorsHall .
The new stone has to have a tooled surface to match the existing tooling marks.

To ensure #accuracy, the project #architects #MartinAshleyArchitects requested that our #masons carry out the tooling on site (as opposed to the stone being tooled at the #quarry workshop)

Accordingly, our masons Hugh Grace, Katie Worthington & Ben Wright are working hard to get the tooling completed ready for our site fixing team, led by DBR mason Garnett Kirton.”

" While we were working so many folks visiting the (Parliament) Square would often comment, rather wistfully, on what an #honour it must be to do what we do, and it is certainly true! Conversely, there was one chap who wondered if what we were doing was #atonement for some sort of crime lol! Such #interesting, and varied, #perspectives always make me smile." According to @EnglishHeritage, on average one #historic building or monument has been destroyed every day since 1945.
That fact has been accompanied by a fall in local authority #heritage #restoration budgets of 8% over the past eight years.

In the field of #building #conservation, there has been a growing interest in the use of
‘ hot mixed’ #lime #mortars, which potentially offer advantages to Natural Hydraulic Limes
(NHLs), both in terms of practice and performance. In response to this, DBR hosted a one day
training on hot lime mixes.....
