Introduction

Even as a kid I had a passion for food and travel. Now, I regularly cross the globe to experience a destination restaurant and have been known to sniff out bakeries like a bloodhound. I spent five years working as a TV news reporter before deciding to make the jump to food and travel writing. You can see my work in the pages of Sunset, San Diego Magazine and Travel & Leisure, as well as on blog.virgin-atlantic.comthepointsguy.com and on my own website travelproper.com

Bragging rights

The B&B gets a much needed update at these five European guesthouses. #Europe #travel
One of my favorite types of accommodation is a good bed and breakfast. They're affordable, you will most likely get to meet the owner (and pick their brain about the destination) and breakfast is included. This doesn't mean I like all B&Bs. I can't stand the kitchsy ones decorated with doilies, ...

I'm saddened and horrified by recent events in France, but I feel it's that much more important to promote what makes this country special. I'm honored that my first true travel feature, in this month's Robb Report magazine, is about my adopted country and specifically the idyllic region of ‪#‎Normandy‬. #travel

I'm pretty smitten with ‪#‎SanDiego‬'s new Liberty Public Market. Here are five reasons you must visit! #travel #traveltuesday
I believe public markets should be a permanent fixture in every city in the US so I was incredibly excited when I heard San Diego would be getting its own public market concept. Liberty Public Market opened in March in Point Loma's Liberty Station, a Naval Training Center turned mixed-use ...

From a Tuscan restaurant that serves the region's prized beef family-style to an Inn and restaurant in the San Juan islands specializing in foraged ingredients and local seafood, these are the meals I would gladly eat again and again and again. If only they were closer... #travel
I love to travel for a variety of reasons, but if I had to pick one it would definitely be for the food. I love scouring the globe for life-changing or simply incredibly fun meals. For me dining out is the ultimate form of entertainment. Here are ten of my favorites in no particular order.

There are many reasons to visit #NewZealand, friendly people, beautiful scenery and exceptional bakeries. Here's a look at two, one on the North Island and one on the South, that are worth seeking out.
At the Baker's Coffee Shop the daily specials are written on kraft paper. Before I went to New Zealand, I picked the brains of friends who had visited before and they all said it was incredible, truly one of their favorite places on earth, but there was a catch. “Don't expect too much of the ...

This month I got to write about my favorite thing, food, for Modern Luxury San Diego and specifically San Diego's ever improving dining scene. My sections are Most Exciting New Restaurants and Places to See and Be Seen, but let this be your guide to where to eat and drink in SD now. ‪#‎travel‬ ‪#‎sandiego‬
The city’s booming culinary scene is hallmarked by inspiring new restaurant openings, impressive chefs, dishes to die for, experiences to savor, and a spectrum of food and drink trends that take dining out into a whole new and exciting realm.

Dining alone has become widely acceptable and it's even fun. Here are my tips and picks for the best places to eat solo in great cities around the world. ‪#‎restaurants‬ ‪#‎eatingout‬
The tasting bar at Juliet offers great views of the open kitchen. Being a travel writer means I travel alone quite frequently. My husband accompanies me when he can but unfortunately he has to work sometimes…so this means I've done solo road trips in Southern Spain, Portugal and France and found ...

Because of what I do I get to tour some pretty amazing hotel suites. Ofcourse, many of them cost the equivalent of a new car a night, way out of reach for me and my writer's salary, but it is fun to get a peek into this rarefied world. My latest for Travel + Leisure here. ‪#‎travel‬ ‪#‎luxury‬ ‪#‎luxurytravel‬
The Reverie Saigon, open since September, is setting a new luxury standard in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Saigon Suite on the 38th and 39th floors of the hotel is the jewel in its lofty crown. The one-of-a kind suite designed by Cassina and Poltrona Frau, two Italian design houses, is an homage to 20th-century design. With stunning views of the sprawling city and the Saigon River, the suite's furnishings include Frank Lloyd Wright wooden barrel cha...

Last October I spent two amazing days cycling in ‪#‎Tuscany‬ and they were very different experiences-- once day was spent on a light weight carbon fiber frame with a Castiglion Del Bosco - Toscana cycling guide, the next was on a 1950s berga as part of the L'Eroica vintage bike race in Chianti. I turned the experience into this story for Robb Report. #Italy

I have a new logo that I'm pretty excited about. Here's the story of the clandestine mission that inspired it.
Paris's fashion museum, where the Lanvin exhibit was on display last year. You may or may not have noticed my new logo depending on how long you've been visiting this website. The idea for the red-orange logo started with a visit to the Palais Galliera, the fashion museum, in Paris for the ...
