Well, That Was Unexpected - Review of Pitch Perfect
A romantic comedy about college a cappella groups? Seriously? How did I get it into my head that this would be a movie for me? Well, somehow I did and tonight I got a chance to watch Pitch Perfect (2012) and what I was met by was completely unexpected. I liked it. I very much liked it.

Don't get me wrong; I didn't consider a cappella cool and Pitch Perfect didn't help the matter. A cappella can sound good at points but even the best a cappella songs/performances still would be even better if they just added a few instruments. One of the many good things about Pitch Perfect is however that it is very much aware of this. It doesn't seem to think that a cappella is oh so amazing which I feel most dance, cheerleading, etc. movies do. However, enough about the a cappella part of the movie.

Pitch Perfect surprised me by having not only a few but many utterly insane WTF moments which made me laugh out aloud so hard I almost couldn't breathe. This did not only include ridiculous situations but also some truly epic one-liners, for instance delivered by the odd character Lilly (portrayed by Hana Mae Lee) who I both found scary and hilarious.

Oh, I almost forgot: Fuck Glee; I'm never watching that shit again after Pitch Perfect showed me that you can actually make something more than just passable with a concept very close to what Glee is doing. That way I don't have to catch up on the 4th season either. Perfect Perfect has likable and interesting characters, several good movie references, songs I don't feel like skipping (either because they're making me laugh or sound good), comedy that is funny, and good, quotable one-liners. Glee got none of this. So once again: Fuck Glee.

I think I've gone on for long enough. A little into Pitch Perfect I did realize that I should have done yet another "rambling stream of contentiousness" post for Pitch Perfect, but I didn't feel like starting over. Perhaps I'll rewatch it while drunk this weekend and make such a post; let's see. Anyway: Pitch Perfect is not just a decent movie - it is a great movie, hilarious as hell and overall a very pleasant surprise. Watch it!
