At Emerald City Comicon this year, Andrew was on a panel about podcasting with a group of local Seattle podcasters. Thanks to modern technology and the help of a good friend-of-the-show, we got it recorded and have made it available on our YouTube page! Check it out!

Shortcast 15 - Your Name is Jimmy Now

Andrew and Dan bring you a new Week in Geek as they talk about old RPGs (relatively speaking) Wild Arms 3 and Fallout 4, ruminating about the shifting state of video game RPGs.

Episode 89 - High-Five Forever

This week we have one topic and one topic only: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, neither of us have seen it. To that point, there has been a lot of chatter during the week leading up to the movie's release, so we talk about that and how we color our enjoyment and opinions about movies often long before we step into the theater.

Also, Andrew talks about Daredevil, Season 2 and Dan talks about a Lovecraftian novella he read, The Ballad of Black Tom, that is a re-imagining of "The Horror at Red Hook" but from a very different point of view.

Let us know what you think and share if you enjoy it!

Episode 88 - Idealistic Ventures Based on Bad Premises

This week, we talk about origin stories. Why do studios keep making them when the public seems to be so sick of them?

We also talk about a recently announced Hearthstone expansion that seemed relevant to our interests––"Whispers of the Old Gods" and its Lovecraftian connections. We also talk about a bit about how fantasy has used the Lovecraftian philosophy and bestiary in a different ways.

Also, Andrew plays the demo for Bravely Second, the sequel to the SquareEnix JRPG, Bravely Default, and Dan re-watches the first X-Men movie and watches, for the first time, Rocky.

While the sarcastic title of the article makes it sound sadder than it should, Ars Technica's gaming hub posted an article about tabletop games for people who either prefer, or wouldn't mind, playing by themselves.

Have you heard of any of these games? What do you recommend?

Episode 86 - Starting Pause

Andrew and Dan are back and this week they're talking about video game RPGs. First, they address some of the business choices surrounding the new Fire Emblem games before discussing the changing state of video game RPGs, especially in the wake of the lukewarm reception to Fallout 4 and the major shuffling of creatives at Bioware.

Also, Andrew talks about a barcade in Portland called Ground Control while Dan reads a silly Deadpool comic.

Check out the episode and leave your thoughts below!

Episode 84 - Your Cursor is My Prisoner

Andrew continues to play Assassin's Creed Chronicles, though this time, it's the game set in Russia while Dan plays a game that needs to you to walk and look around, called Firewatch.

This week, we talk about how pop culture has a fascinating tendency to take popular music from one context and basically redefine it after putting it into a new one, creating new cultural meaning and longer life spans for music that could otherwise be lost to time.

We also commence Cheap Games, Part 2: The Returns in which we discuss further how and why people assign monetary value to how long video games take to complete.

Let us know your thoughts about this week's topics and share if you like the episode!'

Episode 83 - The F-14 in the Backyard

We try to get all self-aware because we talk about the implications of the Deadpool movie (especially if it does well) as well as the really interesting ARG run by Greater Than Games that lead to its Kickstarter for its final expansion for the wildly successful card game, Sentinels of the Multiverse.

Also, Andrew plays a bunch of indie games, especially Thomas Was Alone, while Dan talks about Ben Templesmith's comic adaptation of the H. P. Lovecraft short story, Dagon, recently fulfilled from a Kickstarter campaign.

I (Dan) feel a bit like a fool for only noticing this now, but below is an outstanding critical analysis of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. If you're interested in a smart analysis of a game in a series dear to the hearts of Andrew and Dan, be sure to check it out.
