Ever wonder what it takes to piss of a monk? Try talking to him about eBay. For nearly 175 years, the pious monks of Westvleteren in the western Belgian Poperinge hop region have quietly gone about brewing what have become some of the world’s most heralded and sought after beers. Without trying, the monks scored the twin crowns of world’s best beer on both BeerAdvocate and RateBeer. The monks now found themselves in an enviable situation, with ad...

(With apologies to Shakespeare). Or, how political discourse in America is becoming more like that in Greece. I’ve been away in Europe for much of the last few weeks, and have heard plenty about the euro crisis (and US fiscal paralysis). And while I think the comparisons often made between the Greek and American fiscal situations are overstated (different debt-to-GDP ratios and trajectories, and critically very different arrangements with respec...

AOL founder Steve Case has a three-point plan to get job growth back on track in America, and it all revolves around ways the government can spur more entrepreneurship. Over the past three decades, high-growth companies created 40 million jobs. “It accounts for all the net job creation,” Case tells me in the video interview above. I sat down with Case yesterday at the Techonomy conference. Case is the chairman of the Startup America Partnership a...

I wonder what $135k per year in miscellaneous costs actually entails. I wish my office gave me that much leeway with an expense account that large.
