On of the two major museums dedicated to New York City. Permanent exhibits relating to Children's toys, Rockefeller home rooms, giving a glimpse of part of New York's past, and New York City firefighting and changing exhibits on any number of facets of New York with photos, paintings, and objects. 4 floors of exhibits you can enjoy multiple times a year as new openings occur. There are also events relating to the exhibits and other New York topics.

Kinda neat little museum. When I went they had a 20 minute video talking about the history of NYC which was really incredible and definitely my favorite part.

I visited the museum for free during the summer Uptown Bounce. Great museum with many interesting exhibitions. There is a lot of information on the history of New York, which is a lot to take in during one trip, so I will need to return.

Not exactly what you would expect from a museum dedicated to NYC. It is more like a series of exhibits that are not chronological nor historically complete. There are excellent sections like the ones on historical landmarks, activism in NYC, and in particular the immigration photos of Jacob Riis. However, exhibits on affordable housing and folk music seem incomplete or out of place. Riis' photos are insightful though.

Great place to visit if you are interested in the history of NYC! As for the admission fee, it is suggested. If you are a frequent visitor, you might as well purchase a membership as it entitles you to discounts etc. In addition, there is a Young Members Circle membership for those who are 21-39 years of age for $100 per year, which is affordable relative to similar organizations, and provides you with access to exclusive events, outings, programs, and so forth geared toward rising professionals who live and/or work in NYC. Part of the museum is under construction and you cannot consume food or drink in the exhibition rooms (otherwise I would have given 5 stars).

The museum is very elegant. When the permanent exhibits open after renovation I am sure I will be giving five stars. I enjoyed the guided tour and the film the most, and picked up lots of interesting insights and stories. A good way to start a visit to New York.
