OpenStreetMap (and Wikipedia too) is such an inspiring project.
As more private companies offer us maps, we need an open-source, editable solution - a cartographical Wikipedia

Nice visualization of the Portuguese politicians and their interchange with the private sector.
It's a very symbiotic relationship, benefits both participants although at (possible) the cost of the social environment the inhabit.

So G+ has custom urls (where custom means defined by google) and in the terms of service google reserves the right to take away that url or pricing them in the future.

I'm not sure that it has to be more complex for users. This has always been said of new technologies, like computers in the beginning. I think the main barrier at the moment is more political than technological: neither governments nor big corporations want this.

I don't use decentralized social networks because none is there -- maybe I should use them actually, would get more work done :)

Obama canceled his trip to meet with other TPP state leaders this week, but they could still force it through and sign it by December.

It's time to spread the word about the TPP far and wide. It's up to us to force our elected representatives to do their job and ensure that our countries are not binding our laws to secret treaties that shut Internet users out.
President Obama was scheduled to meet with the leaders of the other eleven countries negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Bali, supposedly to plan the “end-game” for this massive trade deal. However, he has made a sudden decision to cancel his trip, claiming that this was a casualty of the government shutdown.
