This is a resource that has been set up by the federal government to help people find help (the navigators you may have read about) to enroll for health insurance in the exchanges come the October 1 roll-out. You plug in your zip code, and locations come up (with hours, languages spoken, websites, and addresses).

Please share and pass around this link! Thanks.

Thank you to Noel for reminding me that I should have done this a few weeks back. But better late than never.
My mother, Charlotte Goodman Harris Madway, died of multiple myeloma in 2000. For my 40th birthday, I asked everyone to donate to the American Cancer Society, and for a couple of years I asked for don...

I started doing and writing up daily Random Acts of Kindness one day after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. Today will be Day 166. Which really saddens me because it means the US has gone that long without any kind of tangible response from Congress in relation to trying to prevent this kind of event from happening again. Even something as basic as closing all the gun purchase background check loopholes.

So I'll keep doing this blog until that does happen (but I won't stop doing acts of kindness - that'll be forever).

I have a personal story and some very strong thoughts about why the Affordable Care Act should not be repealed. Here's a video I made sharing them (and a link to the transcript of that video - the video runs 30 minutes). If you find it informational, please share.

Wake Up Voters! We Can't Let Obamacare Be Repealed!

Heads up for those considering applying for the government's pre-existing conditions health insurance program (PCIP): what the articles extolling the federal government's PCIP don't tell you is that there's a 5-6 week delay between when you submit your application (online!) and its being processed followed by another couple of weeks for receiving the notification (by mail) and getting the first payment made (again by mail). Since you can't even apply for PCIP until you've been without insurance 6 months, this means a minimum of 8 months without health insurance. Bad, bad! The powers that be need to change the mechanisms so that, if there is going to be this delay, applications can be submitted at the 5 month mark (or maybe 4 month mark), so that the insurance can kick in as close as possible to when your eligibility starts, not months later.

I'm seriously contemplating writing my Congressman and The White House to get them to address this.

How many lives have to be destroyed or careers derailed before the majority of this country agrees that the Second Amendment needs serious revising, gien that the world we now exist in differs so drastically from that of the late 1700s? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/22/gabrielle-giffords-stepping-down_n_1222168.html

At a Penn alumni event last night in Miami, two retired Chief Justices of the FL Supreme Court (pre-2000) both slammed the US Supreme Court's Citizens United decision. Which got me thinking: no surprise most of Congress is acting opposite to the needs of the US people - Citizens United has made it so that corporations are more important to them than people. Occupy Wall Street is also an indirect response to it.
