- This is still a work in progress but I think the project has merit on two counts. First, the underlying floor plans are a very nice map that could be used as a mansion or castle in any game. Second, I'm interested in how such a map could be used for social conflicts. My original idea was to use something like a Clue board with its stylized mansion layout but a little googling revealed the actual floor plans. Re-watching the show has made me realize that there is a fairly rich set of social rules that make certain borders more difficult to cross if you are male or female, aristocrat or servant. Different characters have specific zones in which they have more more political power. The dining room itself could be broken up into zones based on seating arrangements. This is probably best represented within the Fate Core framework as scene aspects, unlockable only by certain characters.
Of course, the action in the series takes place over of much larger terrain. The first floor (second floor for us Americans) has the bedrooms and walk around the saloon in which a great deal of plotting and conniving occurs. The servants have dormitory rooms in the garret and a number of zones in the basement including the servants' hall, the kitchen and the pantry. The larger map should include the grounds, the village and key locations within the village.
Even if this doesn't see use, it is an interesting though exercise for Fate and extendable to other games to make maps that are geographical in nature but keyed for social rather than physical conflict.Apr 13, 2016
