While I don't agree with this writer's conclusions, I've witnessed some of the problems that she points out. Some specifics will follow, but the main point I want to make is that many of the problems have been or are being resolved/reformed in the Church already, and have been for many years.

For instance, Church publications from the 70's contained didactic statements about Book of Mormon geography that seem shaky, at best, but those have mostly been removed since then. My interpretation of this is that some church scholars/leaders thought that they knew more than they actually did about the historical context of the Book of Mormon, but that doesn't really affect the truthfulness of the Book itself or its testimony of Jesus Christ.

Brigham Young University today has many, many students and faculty who think critically about the Mormon faith, just as it also has those who turn our religion into dogma. Our job is the same as everywhere else: figure out who to listen to and who to ignore.

As for the posthumous, polygymous temple marriages, well, that bothers me too. I've personally adopted a wait-and-see approach to the whole thing; if heaven's polygymous, then my wife & I will figure out what to do about it when we get there. Life's full of enough problems without looking for more.
Distrust of outsiders, dissidents must end.

Interesting article. I think Church discipline is slowly changing (for the better) to become more merciful and less "ok for this sin, let me look in the book, yes, here is your punishment". This is closer to the true religion.

Though I like this article, I find it sad that there's only two Republicans in the presidential race who take science seriously.

I found this article insightful (mostly stuff I already knew), but interesting to hear it from a slightly different perspective.

Another instance of "accountability" smothering American achievement and progress.

This was an interesting read. This article deals with the culture among scientists at Los Alamos National Lab, as seen by an anthropologist. I think it says a lot about over reacting and how media hype can cause serious problems.

I think that if you keep them pruned, they will stay small.
