This is something of a mind-blower

Robert Wilson's recording of crickets, slowed way down.

Is that a Heavenly Chorus or what? Hidden in the secret world of the bugs!

Hi +Karin Lisa Atkinson , Thanks, you may be right, I just found this somewhere, maybe FB, and shared w/o thinking or researching. Jim Wilson deserves the credit. Robert Wilson gets enough anyway.

It is an amazing recording. `i'm glad it's out there.

The high terrace at the BMW Welt Munich is as good a place as any for playing around with the couch cushions, when you're 2 and a half...

Magical Things are Best Made by Hand

My friend Mario Schmitt wrote this photo essay about how the Meinl Spark Shakers are made.

Indeed, real magic comes from skilled hands. Years ago, I was making these shakers much the same way. By Hand. I hammered, welded and sanded each and every one. I always wanted them to have the right sound, feel, and the right energy.

Nowadays, Meinl Percussion is producing them. Still by hand. And they are happily being heard all over the world. They still have a special magical feel and sound.

They have a great sound for quiet drum circles, studio work, and meditation.

Big Thanks for writing this, Mario Schmitt, and a big shout out to everyone in the Meinl musical community!

Thinking of Cooking Up a Custom App?

Think Twice, Design Once

This article was sent to me by +Oleg Lola. It is worth reading if you are thinking of making a custom app. Probably would save some expensive headaches too. Thanks Oleg!

A Timely Reminder

Especially for those of us who are wearing many hats…

I received this short article from +Oleg Lola  over at Mobidev.  It's got a few simple but important points to remember. Take a look, see how your website stands. I found the reminders worthwhile...

Amazing isn't it? I had heard reports before about "Astronaut Euphoria". I think this was something NASA wanted to play down back during the Apollo program.

It's great to hear Edgar Mitchell talking about it, and all the ISS Astronauts as well. I see them groping for a spiritual framework to describe their experiences.

Pretty soon one of them will come out and just say it:
Gaia!  She is a living entity!

What  have I been doing all summer?

In between taking the kids swimming and everything else, I have been busy putting drums together. A lot of drums. I'm getting prepared for larger drum circle gigs and, it seems, begging the capacity of our car.

There are three types of drums in the photo. Standing up are the Djembes. These have a shaved goatskin head. Laying down are the Bougarabous. These have a cow skin head and are unshaven.

Both types are from Iroko wood and hand carved in Ivory Coast. I did the finishing work and put on the heads.

In front are five small Dun-Duns. These are made from sawn pieces of Bavarian Spruce, the same type of wood used for violin and cello tops. This wood has really great resonant properties. The drum bodies are glued together like a wooden keg, and carefully finished. They sound just awesome! The cow skin heads give them a round, full tone that gently sings and waltzes you along...

What about you all? What are your Summer stories?

It's late summer, but it isn't over yet!

Went swimming today in this beautiful small lake near where I live. The water is still quite warm and the sunlight even warmer.

Where is your favourite place to swim?

Empowering Community through Rhythm and Fun
Introduction
I live and work in Bavaria, in southern Germany. My social network contact tends to run both in my native English and in German. I hope my English speaking friends will enjoy a few German words here and there. I hope my German friends will understand why I post so often in English.

I grew up in Connecticut, in the USA. There was a famous author who lived in the capitol city of Hartford, named Samuel Clemens. He is better known as Mark Twain.  He once said, "God invented Eternity so that people could learn to speak German".

He was right...

I have been at it for only a few years. I do OK. They have not yet asked me to leave the country.

What do I with the most passion?
Rhythmuskreise ... Rhythm Circles
My line of work is with communication through self-made group rhythm. This is all about Community,  Personal Development, and Group Dynamics. Naturally it is a great experience for Teams of all sorts. It is also a wonderful component for events such as conferences, and also private parties.

So what do I do?
I come to your event with a load of drums and percussion. The seating is set up in a circle. The participants are invited in, an off we go!

Along the way, I provide some guidance and a loose framework. I also pull out some surprises. It is done in such a way that the group is empowered to discover their own rhythms and their own 'meaning' of their experience.

How does it work?
It works best when the person responsible for the group contacts me in advance, and then we tailor the event to their specific needs. The program itself is really quite flexible. I work with lots of different types: Youth groups, church groups, businesses, and senior citizens. Yes, I do weddings and birthday parties.

You can see more about the Group Rhythm Experience by visiting the website. English speakers are probably going to have a better time on the Drum Circle blog page.

I look forward to sharing with you on Google+ !

Liebe Grüße aus Weilheim,
Bill

I have to agree with the other reviewers, the food is just Okay, sometimes really pretty good. The service is sometimes good, sometimes not. I think a somewhat hgh staff turnover may explain some of this. We go mainly for the views, like everyone else mentions. It's a great place to bring guests from out of town, or to which to e invited as a guest from elsewhere. The Biergarten has both sunny areas and shady areas, this is important! We also like the fact that the kids can play on the funky older playground equipment or take a hike up the hill. I will be going there again!

This is really a wonderful, friendly, high quality, non-Granola-Head store. The owners and staff are really wonderful people. Be sure to sign up for the Biomichl Customer Card! I just wish they would keep another person on the cash registers, there is often a longish wait at the checkout.
